Glaucoma is a group of diseases characterized by progressive optic nerve degeneration, with the characteristic pathological change being death of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), which ultimately causes visual field loss and irreversible blindness. Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) remains the most important risk factor for glaucoma, but the exact mechanism responsible for the death of RGCs is currently unknown. Neurotrophic factor deficiency, impaired mitochondrial structure and function, disrupted axonal transport, disturbed Ca homeostasis, and activation of apoptotic and autophagic pathways play important roles in RGC death in glaucoma.

Phenoxazine, as an organic-small-molecule chromophore, has attracted much attention for its potential electrochromic applications recently. To develop appealing materials, phenoxazine chromophores were introduced at the N-position of carbazole-thiophene pigment, yielding two novel monomers (DTCP and DDCP), whose chemical structures were characterized by NMR, HRMS and FTIR. This study demonstrated the effects of the sludge type and inoculation method on the N,N-dimethylformamide degradation pathway and associated microbial communities. The sludge type is critical for DMF metabolism, with acclimatized aerobic sludge having a significant advantage in terms of DMF metabolism performance, whereas acclimatized anaerobic sludge has a reduced DMF metabolism capacity. Metagenomic revealed increased abundances of Methanosarcina, Pelomona and Xanthobacter in the adapted anaerobic sludge, suggesting that anaerobic sludge can utilize the methyl products produced by DMF metabolism for growth.
