Metamaterial has been captivated a popular notion, offering photonic functionalities beyond the capabilities of natural materials. Its desirable functionality primarily relies on well-controlled conditions such as structural resonance, dispersion, geometry, filling fraction, external actuation, etc. However, its fundamental building blocks-meta-atoms-still rely on naturally occurring substances.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the relationship between kidney function and echocardiography findings related to left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) in patients from a university hospital, categorizing them by levels of kidney function based on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).
  • - Among 4,022 patients, those with increasingly decreased kidney function showed higher odds of having abnormal echocardiographic parameters, including the E/e' ratio and left ventricular mass index (LVMI), indicating a clear connection between deteriorating kidney health and worsening cardiac function.
  • - The findings reveal that even mildly decreased kidney function is associated with signs of LVDD, suggesting that as kidney function declines, the risk of echocardiographic abnormalities in

Guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) has clear benefits on morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure; however, GDMT use remains low. In the multicenter, open-label, investigator-initiated ADMINISTER trial, patients (n = 150) diagnosed with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) were randomized (1:1) to receive usual care or a strategy using digital consults (DCs). DCs contained (1) digital data sharing from patient to clinician (pharmacotherapy use, home-measured vital signs and Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaires); (2) patient education via a text-based e-learning; and (3) guideline recommendations to all treating clinicians.

In Indonesia, the monitoring of rainfall requires an estimation system with a high resolution and wide spatial coverage because of the complexities of the rainfall patterns. This study built a rainfall estimation model for Indonesia through the integration of data from various instruments, namely, rain gauges, weather radars, and weather satellites. An ensemble learning technique, specifically, extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), was applied to overcome the sparse data due to the limited number of rain gauge points, limited weather radar coverage, and imbalanced rain data.

Introduction: Pediatric bronchopneumonia is a prevalent life-threatening disease, particularly in developing countries. Affordable and accessible blood biomarkers are needed to predict disease severity which can be based on the Duration of Hospitalization (DOH).

Aim Of The Study: To assess the significance and correlation between differential blood profiles, especially the Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), and the DOH in bronchopneumonia children.

Objective: The present study investigated the effects of Andaliman fruit extract on tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and transient receptor potential ankyrin-1 (TRPA-1) levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) mouse models induced with streptozocin (STZ) and a high-fat diet (HFD).

Materials And Methods: In this research, mice were allocated into six distinct groups: normal, negative control (HFD and STZ), positive control (metformin, HFD, and STZ), and three treatment groups (HFD, STZ, and Andaliman extract at varying dosages of 100, 300, and 500 mg/kg, respectively). Body weight and blood glucose levels (BGLs) were recorded at weeks 1 (baseline), 8, 12, and 16.

Introduction And Importance: Polydactyly is the most common congenital malformation in the limbs. However, it is rare for a patient to exhibit concomitant preaxial and postaxial polydactyly alongside syndactyly in both limbs, and there are limited recommendations for such conditions. This report presents a case of bilateral preaxial and postaxial polydactyly with syndactyly of the feet.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is under-recognized in clinical practice. Although a previously developed risk score, termed HFPEF, can be used to estimate HFpEF probability, this score requires imaging data, which is often unavailable. Here we sought to develop an HFpEF screening model that is based exclusively on clinical variables and that can guide the need for echocardiography and further testing.

Article Synopsis
  • Heart failure (HF) is a widespread issue that requires improved predictive tools for better treatment, particularly focusing on congestion, which leads to hospitalizations.
  • The BioMEMS study, part of the MONITOR-HF trial, collects blood samples from participants to analyze the relationship between biomarker patterns and pulmonary artery pressures over time.
  • By adopting a dynamic approach to biomarker measurement rather than relying on single baseline values, the study aims to enhance understanding of HF progression and tailor therapies for individual patients.

  • The TITRATE-HF study investigates the real-world application and barriers to guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) for heart failure patients, aligning with the 2021 ESC HF guidelines and 2023 updates.
  • Conducted in the Netherlands, the study involved 4,288 patients, highlighting that while 44% of chronic and worsening heart failure patients received quadruple therapy, only 1% achieved target doses for all drug classes.
  • The findings indicate that there is significant room for improvement in GDMT usage and dosing, emphasizing the need for enhanced strategies in heart failure management.

Background And Aims: In patients with chronic heart failure (HF), the MONITOR-HF trial demonstrated the efficacy of pulmonary artery (PA)-guided HF therapy over standard of care in improving quality of life and reducing HF hospitalizations and mean PA pressure. This study aimed to evaluate the consistency of these benefits in relation to clinically relevant subgroups.

Methods: The effect of PA-guided HF therapy was evaluated in the MONITOR-HF trial among predefined subgroups based on age, sex, atrial fibrillation, diabetes mellitus, left ventricular ejection fraction, HF aetiology, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

Background: Despite maximal treatment, heart failure (HF) remains a major clinical challenge. Besides neurohormonal overactivation, myocardial energy homoeostasis is also impaired in HF. Trimetazidine has the potential to restore myocardial energy status by inhibiting fatty acid oxidation, concomitantly enhancing glucose oxidation.
