2024 HRS perspective on advancing workflows for CIED remote monitoring.

Cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) generate substantial data, often stored in image or PDF formats. Remote monitoring, now an integral component of patient care, places considerable administrative burdens on clinicians and staff, in large part due to the challenge of integrating these data seamlessly into electronic health records. Since 2006, the Heart Rhythm Society, in collaboration with the CIED industry, has led an initiative to establish a unified standard nomenclature.

Hospital Volume and Long-Term Survival Among Medicare Beneficiaries Undergoing Surgical Repair of Acute Type A Aortic Dissection.

Despite guideline recommendations, transfer rates to high-volume aortic centers (high-VACs) for acute type A aortic dissections (TAAD) remain suboptimal; this may be because the benefit of undergoing surgical repair of TAAD at high-VACs remains poorly quantified. Medicare beneficiaries undergoing surgical repair of TAAD from 1999-2019 were identified. Hospital and surgeon annual aortic case volumes in Medicare beneficiaries were determined.

Integrating environmental physiotherapy into New Zealand undergraduate education: exploring current practice.

This paper describes the integration of environmental physiotherapy education into the physiotherapy curriculum in a New Zealand university in response to the environmental physiotherapy agenda and the University of Otago Sustainability Framework. We describe and discuss three learning activities, the associated challenges and lessons learnt, and the current position. Given the encompassing nature of environmental and health interactions, we aimed for multilayer immersive experiences using a range of pedagogical approaches.

Applying a two-stage generalized synthetic control approach to quantify the heterogeneous health effects of extreme weather events: A 2018 large wildfire in California event as a case study.

Extreme weather events, including wildfires, are becoming more intense, frequent, and expansive due to climate change, thus increasing negative health outcomes. However, such effects can vary across space, time, and population subgroups, requiring methods that can handle multiple exposed units, account for time-varying confounding, and capture heterogeneous treatment effects. In this article, we proposed an approach based on staggered generalized synthetic control methods to study heterogeneous health effects, using the 2018 California wildfire season as a case study.

Exploiting historical agronomic data to develop genomic prediction strategies for early clonal selection in the Louisiana sugarcane variety development program.

Genomic selection can enhance the rate of genetic gain of cane and sucrose yield in sugarcane (Saccharum L.), an important industrial crop worldwide. We assessed the predictive ability (PA) for six traits, such as theoretical recoverable sugar (TRS), number of stalks (NS), stalk weight (SW), cane yield (CY), sugar yield (SY), and fiber content (Fiber) using 20,451 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with 22 statistical models based on the genomic estimated breeding values of 567 genotypes within and across five stages of the Louisiana sugarcane breeding program.

Long-term studies should provide structure for inclusive education and professional development.

Long-term studies are critical for ecological understanding, but they are underutilized as inclusive opportunities for training ecologists. We use our perspective from the Año Nuevo elephant seal programme along with surveys from community members to propose that long-term studies could be better leveraged to promote inclusive education and professional development in ecology. Drawing on our experiences as mentors and mentees, we demonstrate how long-term studies can use their resources, including rich data, robust logistics and extensive professional networks, to improve recruitment and retention of diverse groups of trainees.

Transgender individuals commonly feel significant distress and discomfort, termed gender dysphoria, as a result of the discrepancy between their gender assigned at birth and their gender identity. A major source of gender dysphoria stems from distinct anatomical differences between the male and female chest. Gender-affirming mastectomy of transmasculine patients and breast augmentation for chest feminization of transfeminine patients, also referred to as top surgery, are often the first surgical interventions and most commonly pursued physical modifications for the treatment of gender dysphoria among this patient population.

Autonomic dysfunction is associated with cardiovascular and neurological diseases, including hypertension, heart failure, anxiety, and stress-related disorders. Prior studies demonstrated that late gestation exposure to dexamethasone (DEX) resulted in female-biased increases in stress-responsive mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR), suggesting a role for glucocorticoid-mediated programming of autonomic dysfunction. Response of the ductus arteriosus to acetaminophen or indomethacin in extremely low birth weight infants.

Objective: Acetaminophen and indomethacin are used for medical management of a patent ductus arteriosus. This study compared the efficacy of these agents in ELBW infants.

Study Design: This was a retrospective study of all courses of indomethacin and acetaminophen.

A global phylogenetic analysis revealed that biotype gravis is particularly lethal as it produces diphtheria toxin and a range of other virulence factors, particularly when it encounters low levels of iron at sites of infection. To gain insight into how it colonizes its host, we have identified iron-dependent changes in the exoproteome and surfaceome of strain 1737 using a combination of whole-cell fractionation, intact cell surface proteolysis, and quantitative proteomics.

Financial toxicity among pediatric oncology families during therapy and early survivorship: a qualitative analysis.

Purpose: Cancer treatment often results in adverse financial consequences-also termed financial toxicity. To build upon limited research in pediatric oncology, we conducted a qualitative study exploring families' lived experiences with financial toxicity and their perspectives on potential mitigation strategies.

Methods: We conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of English- and Spanish-speaking family caregivers, 3-24 months following diagnosis.

Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the Oxygen Saturation Index (OSI) as a noninvasive measure for early postnatal management and outcome prediction in neonates with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Additionally, the study analyzed the correlation and predictive ability of OSI, Oxygenation Index (OI), Horovitz Index (HI), and partial pressure of arterial oxygen (PaO) regarding mortality and the need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

Purpose: There is a wealth of literature describing the characteristics and proficiencies of clinical teachers, but no description exists of the obstacles that clinical teachers face when aspiring to become a Master Clinical Teacher (MCT). Using Threshold Concepts (TC) theory as an analytical framework can help investigate those potential challenges.

Methods: This is a mixed-methods research integrating an exploratory survey and semi-structured interviews.

Genomic reconstruction reveals impact of population management strategies on modern Galápagos dogs.

Free-breeding dogs have occupied the Galápagos Islands at least since the 1830s; however, it was not until the 1900s that dog populations grew substantially, endangering wildlife and spreading disease. In 1981, efforts to control the population size of free-roaming dogs began. Yet, there exist large free-roaming dog populations on the islands of Isabela and Santa Cruz whose ancestry has never been assessed on a genome-wide scale.

Here we reveal cell wall dynamics in both and rice using simultaneous RNA sequencing. We used weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to home in on cell wall modification processes occurring in interactions with a resistant rice cultivar (Nipponbare) compared to a susceptible one (IAC 165).
