Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and hypertension (HTN) are closely associated with an overlapping and intermingled cause and effect relationship. Decline in renal functions are usually associated with a rise in blood pressure (BP), and prolonged elevations in BP hasten the progression of kidney function decline. Regulation of HTN by normalizing the BP in an individual, thereby slowing the progression of kidney disease and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, can be effectively achieved by the anti-hypertensive use of calcium channel blockers (CCBs).

Plant hormones play an important role in growth, defence and plants productivity and there are several studies on their effects on plants. However, their role in humans and animals is limitedly studied. Recent studies suggest that plant hormone also works in mammalian systems, and have the potential to reduce human diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and also improve cell growth.

Immunogenetic as well as environmental and occupational exposures have been linked to the development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), RA-associated lung disease, and other primary lung disorders. Importantly, various inhalants can trigger post-translational protein modifications, resulting in lung autoantigen expression capable of stimulating pro-inflammatory and/or pro-fibrotic immune responses. To further elucidate gene-environment interactions contributing to pathologic lung inflammation, we exploited an established model of organic dust extract (ODE) exposure with and without collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in C57BL/6 wild type (WT) versus HLA-DR4 transgenic mice.

Non-puerperal uterine inversion is an extremely uncommon condition, and its occurrence due to malignant mixed Mullerian tumor (MMMT) of the uterus is quite exceptional. We report one such case of acute non-puerperal uterine inversion ascribed to MMMT in a 77-year-old postmenopausal woman. Such a case poses a diagnostic and management dilemma, and prior knowledge may result in a successful outcome.

Halide perovskite based solar cells (PSC's) have shown tremendous potential based on its facile fabrication technique, and the low cost of perovskite thin film formation with efficiency passing through an unmatched growth in recent years. High quality film along with morphology and crystallinity of the perovskite layer influences the efficiency and other properties of the perovskite solar cell (PSC). Furthermore, semitransparent perovskite solar cells (ST-PSC) are an area of attraction due to its application in tandem solar cells, although various factors like suitable transparent rear electrodes and optimized technique limit the power conversion efficiency (PCE).

In the past few decades, new contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in the air, water, and soil have gained significant attention due to their adverse impact on human health and the environment. The sources of CECs have been identified in different forms from domestic and industrial activities such as personal care products and pharmaceuticals. It has been established that aqueous medium plays a major role in the dissemination of various contaminants, like drinking water, reservoirs, lakes, rivers and waste with water medium.

Article Synopsis
  • Delaying umbilical cord clamping (DCC) can improve postnatal stability in preterm neonates under 35 weeks gestation, with evidence suggesting it reduces hemodynamic instability.
  • In a study involving 124 preterm neonates, those in the DCC group experienced significantly lower rates of hemodynamic instability (29%) compared to the non-DCC group (46.7%), leading to a reduced need for medication.
  • DCC was also associated with better blood pressure readings and less severe respiratory distress in the first 24 hours, indicating potential benefits for preterm newborns without increasing risks of other complications.

Phosphodiesterase10A (PDE10A) is a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of several neurodegenerative disorders. Thus, extensive efforts of medicinal chemists have been directed toward developing potent PDE10A inhibitors with minimal side effects. However, PDE10A inhibitors are not approved as a treatment for neurodegenerative disorders, possibly due to the lack of research in this area.

"Pseudotumors" in Dermatology.

Indian Dermatol Online J

March 2022

In dermatology, "pseudo" is often used as a prefix for entities resembling another standard condition, either morphologically or histopathologically. Correspondingly, "pseudotumor" is a term encompassing dermatological conditions which are not true proliferations, but either have a clinical resemblance to a known tumor (, Pseudokaposi's sarcoma is actually a non-neoplastic condition) or a histopathological resemblance to one (, pseudo-myogenic hemangioendothelioma named due to a histopathological resemblance between myocytes and tumor cells). Often such a nomenclature can create confusion and unnecessary alarm for both the physicians and the patients.
