Ni(II) complexes with an integer spin = 1 that behave as clock transition spin qubits at zero magnetic field are resilient to magnetic fluctuations of the spin bath, while Co(II) complexes with a half-integer spin ( = 3/2) lose their coherence when they are subject to the same fluctuating magnetic field as the Ni(II) ones. These findings demonstrate that adequately designed Ni(II) complexes are excellent candidates for spin qubits.

Sleep alterations have been described in several neurodegenerative diseases yet are currently poorly characterized in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This study investigates sleep macroarchitecture and related hypothalamic signaling disruptions in ALS. Using polysomnography, we found that both patients with ALS as well as asymptomatic and mutation carriers exhibited increased wakefulness and reduced non-rapid eye movement sleep.

Sexual health is a central aspect of the well-being and quality of life of cancer patients. Through two separate surveys, one conducted among patients and the other among professionals, we assessed the needs and practices relating to sexual health in cancer care. The results showed that the importance attached to taking intimate and sexual life into account was fairly high, but that 44% of patients had discussed the subject with a professional, and the majority had done so on their own initiative.

The growing urbanization process is accompanied by the emergence of new habitats for wildlife, and cities are sometimes seen as refuges for pollinators such as wild bees compared to intensively cultivated rural habitats. However, the contrasting living conditions that combine high fragmentation, exposure to pollutants, and heat island effects, with low pesticide use and potentially high availability of resources, make it difficult to predict the overall effect of urban living on the health of wild bees. In adults, liver-resident macrophages, or Kupffer cells (KCs), reside in the sinusoids and sterilize circulating blood by capturing rapidly flowing microbes. We developed quantitative intravital imaging of 1-day-old mice combined with transcriptomics, genetic manipulation, and in vivo infection assays to interrogate increased susceptibility of newborns to bloodstream infections. Whereas 1-day-old KCs were better at catching in vitro, we uncovered a critical 1-week window postpartum when KCs have limited access to blood and must translocate from liver parenchyma into the sinusoids.
