Occupational allergy to enzyme detergents had almost disappeared by the use of preventive measures, both individually and in industries. The occurrence of 8 new cases of asthma in a detergent factory has led to a prospective clinical and aetiological enquiry. Although there was no documentation using the specific provocation test or by measuring respiratory function whilst at work, the occupational character of this asthma seemed possible after taking a history.

The patient underwent early surgical excision followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. With the help of data from the literature concerning this composite subtype which suggests new theories on the histogenesis of bronchial cancer, the authors emphasize the value of surgical treatment for this unusual subtype of anaplastic carcinoma.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFT-lymphocyte subpopulations in pleural fluid and in peripheral blood from 17 patients admitted for pleural effusion were identified by E-rosette formation and delineated by monoclonal antibodies OKT3 (peripheral T-cells), OKT4 (helper/inducer cells), and OKT8 (suppressor/cytotoxic cells). We studied 13 patients with specified pleural diseases (tuberculosis, malignancies, connective tissue diseases, congestive heart failure) and 4 patients with non-specified pleural diseases. Our findings showed that the percentage of T-cells increases in pleural fluid versus peripheral blood whatever the diagnosis is, and that these T-cells are predominantly helper/inducer cells.
