Objectives: Studies on the relationship between serum sclerostin, a Wnt/β-catenin pathway inhibitor, and atherosclerosis have yielded inconsistent results. We aim to longitudinally investigate the relationship between serum sclerostin levels and the risk of increased arterial stiffness in Japanese community-dwelling women.

Methods: Of 1044 women aged ≥50 years whose brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) value was available in a baseline survey in 2011-2012, we excluded 374 whose baPWVs were ≥1800 cm/s, set as the cutoff for increased arterial stiffness, and eight with missing data.

Objective: To explore the four of Pfaffia glomerata (PG) and endow this foreign folk herb with the properties of Chinese medicine, make it Chinese medicinal and localized, and could be used as a Chinese medicine.

Methods: The normal group, six cold herb groups, six hot herb groups, six cool herb groups, PG prescription group (PGPG), and Dangshen () prescription group (CPPG) were prepared with corresponding concentrations of water extracts, these herb extracts were administered by gavage to Sprague-Dawley rats, and the 12 h urine at night on the 29th day of the SD rats in each group were collected, Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer system was used to analyze them, the best discriminant models for the medicinal properties of cold-hot and cold-cool were set up, so as to the medicinal properties of PGPG, CPPG and PG were predicted. Based on the Progenesis QI, Human Metabolome Database, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, MetaboAnalyst 5.

Echovirus 11 (E11) has gained attention owing to its association with severe neonatal infections. From 2018 to 2023, a surge in severe neonatal cases and fatalities linked to a novel variant of genotype D5 was documented in China, France, and Italy. However, the prevention and control of E11 variants have been hampered by limited background data on the virus circulation and genetic variance.

Background: Patients infected with Acinetobacter baumannii (AB) bacteremia in hospital have high morbidity and mortality. We analyzed the clinical characteristics of pneumonia and nonpneumonia-related AB bloodstream infections (AB BSIs) and explored the possible independent risk factors for the incidence and prognosis of pneumonia-related AB BSIs.

Methods: A retrospective monocentric observational study was performed.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the health risks associated with pesticide exposure among applicators using stretcher-mounted sprayers in orchards across different climate zones in China.
  • It finds that gloves and shins are the most affected areas for dermal exposure, and while inhalation exposure varies by location, overall dermal exposure levels are similar between apple and citrus orchards.
  • The research highlights that wearing better protective clothing, especially gloves, significantly decreases dermal pesticide exposure, and provides statistical models for estimating both dermal and inhalation exposure accuracy.

The current study aimed to determine the effects of different levels of fermented Juncao grass (FG) on growth parameters, blood constituents, immunity, and antioxidative properties of broilers. A total of 240 (21-d-old) broiler chicks were randomly distributed to four dietary treatments of sixty birds, with six replicate pens and ten birds in each. Fermented grass was added to the basal diet at four levels with 0, 5, 10, and 15% FG.

Background: Both hypoplastic left heart syndrome and ventriculo-coronary communication are extremely rare congenital cardiac conditions.

Case: The diagnosis of hypoplastic left heart syndrome combined with endocardial fibroelastosis and ventriculo-coronary communication was made in a pregnant woman at 24 weeks of gestation. Interestingly, unlike diastolic flow from the coronary artery to the left ventricle in typical ventriculo-coronary communication, this fetus showed a systolic flow from the left ventricle to the coronary artery.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates whether multifocal lung squamous cell carcinomas (LSCCs) represent separate primary cancers or spread from one tumor using whole exome sequencing (WES) and morphologic assessments.
  • The analysis involved 20 tumor pairs, revealing that 11 cases were classified as separate primary lung cancers (SPLCs) while 7 were classified as intrapulmonary metastases (IPMs), highlighting significant genomic and immunogenic differences.
  • The results showed poor agreement (58.3%) between histological evaluations by pathologists and WES findings, suggesting that relying solely on morphologic assessments for staging multifocal LSCCs is unreliable and that genomic analyses should be prioritized.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of Gouqizi () seed oil (FLSO) on D-gal induced inflammation in testis of rats and .

Methods: In aging Sertoli cells (TM4 cells) induced by D-galactose (D-gal), the expression of upregulated aging-related proteins. The number of cells counted by cell counting kit (CCK)-8 assay showed a high number of cells disposed with FLSO at 50, 100 and 150 μg/mL compared to that for the aging model.

Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common endocrine tumor, amongst which anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is the most deadly. Aurora-A usually functions as oncogenes, and its inhibitor Alisertib exerts a powerful antitumor effect in various tumors. However, the mechanism of Aurora-A in regulating TC cell energy supply remains unclear.

Objective: To elucidate the protective effect of Qingdai (, QD) on ulcerative colitis (UC) by means of and approaches.

Methods: A systems pharmacology analysis was per-formed to predict the active components of QD whereas the putative biological targets of QD against UC were obtained through target fishing, network cons-truction and enrichment analyses. Meanwhile, we examined the ameliorative effect of QD in a mouse model of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis.
