In this study, we fabricated a temperature-responsive infrared reflector that adjusts to temperature changes by changing its transmittance of incident IR light. The device utilized a thermally induced change in the pitch of a cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) to achieve near-infrared light reflection in a particular wavelength range. We report high-speed photo detection at two-micron-wavelength achieved by a GeSn/Ge multiple-quantum-well (MQW) p-i-n photodiode, exhibiting a 3-dB bandwidth (f3-dB) above 10 GHz for the first time. The epitaxy of device layer stacks was performed on a standard (001)-oriented 300 mm Si substrate by using reduced pressure chemical vapor deposition (RPCVD). The results showed promise for large-scale manufacturing.

We hypothesized that PD-1expressed by regulatory T cells (Tregs) would be functional and their expression levels may associate with activation status of CD4 T and CD8 T cells and the disease progression of HIV-1-infected patients. To prove it, we dynamically examined PD-1 expression levels by Tregs in peripheral blood of HIV-1-infected individuals not receiving antiretroviral therapy. Eighty-one HIV-1-infected individuals not undergoing antiretroviral therapy and 22 HIV-1-seronegative donors were enrolled in our study.

Simultaneously determining the relative pose and correspondence between a set of 3D points and its 2D projection is a fundamental problem in computer vision, and the problem becomes more difficult when the point sets are contaminated by noise and outliers. Traditionally, this problem is solved by local optimization methods, which usually start from an initial guess of the pose and alternately optimize the pose and the correspondence. In this paper, we formulate the problem as optimizing the pose of the 3D points in the SE(3) space to make its 2D projection best align with the 2D point set, which is measured by the cardinality of the inlier set on the 2D projection plane.

Key Points: Circulating microparticles (MPs) are elevated in many cardiovascular diseases and have been considered as biomarkers of disease prognosis; however, current knowledge of MP functions has been mainly derived from in vitro studies and their precise impact on vascular inflammation and disease progression remains obscure. Using a diabetic rat model, we identified a >130-fold increase in MPs in plasma of diabetic rats compared to normal rats, the majority of which circulated as aggregates, expressing multiple cell markers and largely externalized phosphatidylserine; vascular images illustrate MP biogenesis and their manifestations in microvessels of diabetic rats. Using combined single microvessel perfusion and systemic cross-transfusion approaches, we delineated how diabetic MPs propagate inflammation in the vasculature and transform normal microvessels into an inflammatory phenotype observed in the microvessels of diabetic rats.

In this study, a new, simple, and label-free electrochemical immunosensor was presented for the detection of nuclear matrix protein-22 (NMP-22). In order to accurately monitor very small amounts of NMP-22, it was advantageous to use highly efficient nanomaterials as signals. For this reason, we synthesized a chrysanthemum-like nanocomposite (Co-MOFs/CuAu NWs), using Co-based metal-organic frameworks (Co-MOFs) as carriers and copper gold nanowires (CuAu NWs) wrapped around their surface, which was applied for modifying a glassy carbon electrode (GCE).

In this study, genetic diversity and population genetic structure of in the northern South China Sea were investigated by 623 bp fragment of mtDNA COI gene sequence. A total of 146 individuals were collected from nine stations and 92 different haplotypes were obtained. 485 variable sites (210 were parsimony informative and 275 were singleton variable sites), and no insertion or deletion was found.
