Introduction: EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) is the standard adjuvant treatment for patients with stages IB to IIIA -mutated NSCLC. Nevertheless, adapting this approach to include a molecular residual disease (MRD)-guided de-escalation strategy warrants further investigation.

Methods: From January 2019 to December 2022, 71 patients with stages I to III NSCLC and (exon 19 deletion or L858R) mutations were enrolled in this observational study.

The hippocampus is crucial for forming new episodic memories. While the encoding of spatial and temporal information (where and when) in the hippocampus is well understood, the encoding of objects (what) remains less clear due to the high dimensions of object space. Rather than encoding each individual object separately, the hippocampus may instead encode categories of objects to reduce this dimensionality.

An epidermoid cyst is a common benign skin lesion that can occur in any part of the body. However, epidermoid cysts occurring in the breast are extremely rare, rarely reported, and more prone to complications such as infection, rupture, and malignant alteration. Here, we report a case of a 50-year-old woman with a mammary epidermoid cyst.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigated the prevalence and types of inhalant allergens affecting patients with allergic rhinitis in Yinchuan, China, involving 2,000 outpatients over a year.
  • Skin prick tests revealed that 67.30% of participants reacted positively to various allergens, with Artemisia and dust mites being the most common triggers.
  • The study found no significant differences in allergy rates based on ethnicity or gender, but differences were noted in allergic reactions between patients under and over 18 years old.

Transglutaminase 2 (TG2) is a widely distributed multifunctional protein with various enzymatic and non-enzymatic activities. It is becoming increasingly evident that high levels of TG2 in tumors induce the occurrence of epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the acquisition of stem cell-like phenotypes, promoting tumor metastasis and drug resistance. By regulating intracellular and extracellular signaling pathways, TG2 promotes breast cancer metastasis to lung, brain, liver and bone, as well as resistance to various chemotherapy drugs including docetaxel, doxorubicin, platinum and neratinib.

Background: Ricin, a toxin extracted from the seeds of , is classified as a ribosome-inactivating protein. The A-subunit of ricin shows RNA -glycosidase activity that cleaves ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and exhibits toxicity by inhibiting protein synthesis and inducing vascular leak syndrome.

Methods: In this study, we created a truncated version of the previously developed R51 ricin vaccine (RTA 1-194 D75C Y80C) through in silico analysis.

Background/objectives: Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a primary factor in skin photoaging, leading to wrinkles, reduced elasticity, and pigmentation changes due to damage to cellular DNA, proteins, and lipids. Glycoproteins from sesame cake (SPE) have potential protective effects against UV-induced skin aging. This study investigated the anti-photoaging effects of SPE on UV-induced damage in human keratinocyte HaCaT cells and SKH-1 hairless mice.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on understanding recurrence risks in early-stage adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) patients after surgical removal of tumors, highlighting that ACC is rare and typically has a poor outlook.
  • - Out of 38 patients, 55.3% experienced tumor recurrence, with no notable difference between stages 1 and 2 and higher recurrence rates in those opting for minimally invasive surgery.
  • - It was noted that having clear surgical margins (both gross and pathologic) did not guarantee lower recurrence rates, and no definitive factors were identified that could predict prognosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Echinococcosis is a serious disease that affects humans and is caused by a parasite called Echinococcus granulosus.
  • Scientists studied how this parasite communicates with the body using tiny structures called exosomes, which are found in blood.
  • They discovered that there are important differences in tiny RNA (miRNA) found in the blood of sick people compared to healthy people, which may help the parasite avoid getting attacked by the immune system.

Backgruound: Adrenocortical carcinomas (ACCs) are rare tumors with aggressive but varied prognosis. Stage, Grade, Resection status, Age, Symptoms (S-GRAS) score, based on clinical and pathological factors, was found to best stratify the prognosis of European ACC patients. This study assessed the prognostic performance of modified S-GRAS (mS-GRAS) scores including modified grade (mG) by integrating mitotic counts into the Ki67 index (original grade), in Korean ACC patients.

Patients undergoing lower-limb orthopedic surgery may experience multiple postoperative complications. Although peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) is a promising non-pharmacological approach that has been used in lower-limb postoperative recovery, the clinical efficacy of PNS remains inconclusive. This study systematically searched three databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library) for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the treatment effects of PNSs in patients who underwent lower-limb orthopedic surgery up to September 29, 2023.

The present study investigated the regulatory effects of β-glucan secreted by (RPG) on triglyceride metabolism and gut microbiota in mice fed a high-fat diet. The results indicated that supplementation with RPG significantly reduced body weight gain, blood glucose levels, and the tissue index of epididymal white adipose tissue (eWAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT). Conversely, it increased the tissue index of brown adipose tissue (BAT).

Longer follow-up after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of benign thyroid nodules is needed to understand regrowth and other causes of delayed surgery and long-term complications. This retrospective study included consecutive patients treated with RFA for symptomatic benign nonfunctioning thyroid nodules between March 2007 and December 2010. RFA was performed according to the standard protocol.

Nanomaterial advancements have driven progress in central and peripheral nervous system applications such as tissue regeneration and brain-machine interfacing. Ideally, neural interfaces with native tissue shall seamlessly integrate, a process that is often mediated by the interfacial material properties. Surface topography and material chemistry are significant extracellular stimuli that can influence neural cell behavior to facilitate tissue integration and augment therapeutic outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the effectiveness of neoadjuvant immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy in patients with localized EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) through a phase 2 trial involving 18 participants.
  • Interim results show that while many patients had positive radiological responses, only 44% reached major pathological response, and there were no cases of complete response.
  • The research indicates that certain T cell populations are linked to resistance against immunotherapy and suggests that monitoring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) could help identify patients less likely to respond to such treatments.

Large malignant breast phyllodes tumors are uncommon in clinical settings. Here, we report such a case to provide a reference for clinical work. A 48-year-old woman identified a lump in her right breast, which eventually grew up to 25 cm × 10 cm and began to rapidly bleed and ulcerate within 3 months.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer (BC) patients are at a high risk of developing metastases in the brain. However, research focusing on treatment strategies for hormonal receptor positive (HR+), HER2+ BC patients with brain metastases (BM) remains limited. Thus, a multi-center, prospective trial was conducted in China.

Importance: Uninterrupted targeted therapy until disease progression or intolerable toxic effects is currently the routine therapy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) involving driver gene variations. However, drug resistance is inevitable.

Objective: To assess the clinical feasibility of adaptive de-escalation tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment guided by circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) for achieving complete remission after local consolidative therapy (LCT) in patients with advanced NSCLC.
