The levels of capsaicin (CAP) and hydroxy-α-sanshool (α-SOH) are crucial for evaluating the spiciness and numbing sensation in spicy hotpot seasoning. Although liquid chromatography can accurately measure these compounds, the method is invasive. This study aimed to utilize hyperspectral imaging (HSI) combined with machine learning for the nondestructive detection of CAP and α-SOH in hotpot seasoning.

Introduction: Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is a master regulator of allergic inflammation against pathogens at barrier surfaces of the lung, skin, and gut. However, aberrant TSLP activity is implicated in various allergic, chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases and cancers. Biologics drugs neutralizing excess TSLP activity represented by tezepelumab have been approved for severe asthma and are being evaluated for the treatments of other TSLP-mediated diseases.

Salicylic acid (SA) exhibits positive effects against Huanglongbing (HLB), but how SA affects citrus resistance to HLB is currently unknown. This study conducted integrated transcriptome and metabolome analyses on SA-treated (HLB-sensitive) and (HLB-tolerant). The results indicated that the syntheses of flavones and flavonols were induced by SA, while the expression levels of associated genes and the contents of corresponding metabolites varied significantly between the two species after SA treatment or HLB infection.

In this study, the mesoporous FeO nanodrug carriers containing disulfide bonds (CHO-SMNPs) were successfully synthesized and characterized. Doxorubicin (DOX) was loaded onto the CHO-SMNPs as a model drug and gatekeeper through the formation of imine bonds with the aldehyde groups on the surface of the mesoporous materials. This drug carrier demonstrates effective drug release triggered by pH, glutathione (GSH), and near-infrared (NIR) light, along with satisfactory photothermal conversion efficiency under NIR irradiation at 808 nm.

There is a major public health threat posed by antibiotic resistance around the world. Tigecycline overcomes the resistance mechanisms of traditional tetracyclines and is often seen as the final resort in combating infections caused by bacteria resistant to multiple drugs. However, the introduction of new mobile tet(X) tetracycline destructases is leading to a notable rise in tigecycline resistance.

Background: Globally, pre-eclampsia (PE) poses a major threat to the health and survival of pregnant women and fetuses, contributing significantly to morbidity and mortality. Recent studies suggest a pathological link between PE and ferroptosis. We aim to utilize non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) clustering and machine learning algorithms to pinpoint disease-specific genes related to the process of ferroptosis in PE and investigate likely underlying biochemistry mechanisms.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee is a prevalent chronic degenerative joint condition that is having a growing impact on a global scale., posing a challenge in diagnosis which is often reliant on time-consuming and error-prone visual analysis by physicians. There is a critical need for an automated, efficient, and accurate diagnostic method to improve early detection and treatment.

Background: Recent phase III randomized controlled trials have demonstrated that first-line immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) improve prognosis in advanced HER-2-negative gastric cancer patients with programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) combined positive score (CPS) higher than 5. However, these findings are not confirmed in real-world settings, and the benefits in PD-L1 CPS < 5 patients remain controversial.

Methods: In this multicenter, retrospective cohort study, data from across thirteen medical centers were analyzed by inverse probability of treatment weighting for matching, alongside univariate and multivariate COX proportional hazard regression models.

Background: Aspiration pneumonia (AP) is a common complication in the intensive care unit (ICU), which is associated with significantly increased morbidity and mortality and has a significant impact on patient prognosis. Antibiotics are commonly used in the clinical treatment of AP. However, the prognostic impact of antibiotics on patients with AP has not been adequately characterized.

Objective: To investigate the effects of high-intensity interval training on lipid metabolism and inflammatory factors in overweight children, and provide clinical guidance and recommendations for children's weight management.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted to analyze 60 overweight children, who were randomly divided into an experimental group (high-intensity interval training) and a control group (health education as intervention). Baseline data, physical indicators, and biochemical indicators were analyzed.

Ulcerative colitis (UC), a common inflammatory bowel disease, causes ulcers of the colon and rectum. One of the important reasons for intestinal lesions caused by UC is that immune cells produce large amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Herein, we developed an adhesive thermosensitive polydopamine hydrogel containing MnO nanozyme anchored halloysite nanotubes (MnO@HNTs@PDA) to remove ROS produced by immune cells and treatment of UC.

Objective: Whether first coronal reverse vertebrae (FCRV) can directly cause biomechanical changes in adjacent segments remains unclear. The objective of this study was to explore the biomechanical changes in adjacent discs of the FCRV to better understand the stress distribution of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).

Methods: According to the plain CT scan data of T8-T10 segment of an AIS patient, T9 was the FCRV, and a three-dimensional FE model was established accurately.

The optimal method for administering meropenem remains controversial. This study was conducted to explore the optimal two-step infusion strategy (TIT), and to investigate whether TIT is superior to intermittent infusion therapy (IIT) and prolonged infusion therapy (PIT). A physiologically based pharmacokinetics model for critically ill patients was established and evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess the effects of wrist-ankle acupuncture on reducing postoperative nausea and vomiting in female orthopedic surgery patients through a randomized control trial.
  • - Female patients were divided into an experimental group, which received acupuncture point stimulation, and a control group, which received standard care, with both groups monitored for various health indicators and patient satisfaction.
  • - Results showed that the experimental group had lower serum levels of nausea-related hormones and higher patient satisfaction compared to the control group, suggesting that acupuncture can be an effective nursing intervention without compromising pain relief.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) development is characterized by an altered DNA methylation landscape, which presents a promising area for developing MPNST-specific biomarkers for screening patients with NF1. Genome-wide DNA methylation profiling of a cohort of 13 patients with MPNST (29 samples of tumor and adjacent neurofibroma tissues) and of NF1-MPNST cell lines was performed to identify and validate candidate MPNST-specific CpG sites (CpGs). A logistic regression prediction model was constructed to select MPNST-specific CpGs distinct from adjacent neurofibromas and normal tissues.

The conversion of solar energy into heat for seawater desalination is emerging as a promising method. However, it requires further research on light absorption, thermal management, and salt deposition to improve water evaporation rates. This study introduces a 3D solar evaporator inspired by jellyfish utilizing honeycomb fabric (HF), which capitalizes on a synergistic effect between the periodically arranged concave unit structure and the Chinese ink and carbon black particles (ink@CB), achieving up to 98% light absorption with ink@CB-HF.
