Purpose: To study the optic nerve head characteristics on optical coherence tomography (OCT) in patients with papilledema and correlate them with intracranial pressure (ICP).

Methods: A retrospective hospital-based study of 46 eyes of 23 patients with bilateral optic disc edema secondary to increased ICP. The clinical profile and the OCT features in terms of retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFL), ganglion cell inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thickness, and enhanced depth imaging (EDI) B scan images of the optic nerve head were studied and correlated with the ICP.

Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) is the most common form of secondary osteoporosis due to excessive or long-term glucocorticoid administration, disturbing the homeostasis between bone formation and bone resorption. The bone biology of zebrafish shares a high degree of similarities with mammals. In terms of molecular level, genes and signaling pathways related to skeletogenesis are also highly correlated between zebrafish and humans.

Cold plasma- the fourth state of matter generated at room temperature is composed of several reactive species that account for chemical and physical changes in biological materials. Applications of plasma in food include but are not limited to maintaining safety, quality, and property modification. However, plasma application in the food sector lacks a detailed understanding of the cause of alteration in food.

Article Synopsis
  • Gu Sui Bu (GSB), derived from the rhizome of Drynaria fortunei, is traditionally used in Chinese medicine for fractures and osteoporosis, but its effectiveness against glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) is not well established.
  • The study aimed to evaluate GSB's efficacy and mechanism for treating GIOP, which is common in the elderly and requires effective, safe treatments.
  • Results indicated that GSB significantly improved bone calcification in a zebrafish model of GIOP by enhancing osteoblast activity and inhibiting bone resorption, with naringin identified as a key active component.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the primary cause of dementia affecting millions each year across the world, though still remains incurable. This might be attributed to the lack of knowledge about the associated proteins, their cellular and molecular mechanisms, and the genesis of the disease. The discovery of drugs that earlier revolved around targeting the amyloid-β cascade has now been reformed with the upgraded knowledge of the cross-seeding ability of tau protein which opens new gateways for therapeutic targets.

Tension pneumocephalus (TPC) is a neurosurgical emergency that occurs when there is an expansion of trapped intracranial gas causing raised intracranial pressure. Rarely, posttraumatic TPC can occur even after 72 hours although the initial scans are normal. There are less than 20 cases of delayed TPC in the reported literature.

We present the case of a 20-year-old woman, primigravida with 24 weeks of amenorrhoea due to pregnancy. She came with symptoms of rapidly increasing size of both the breasts since 8 weeks. On examination, both breasts were grossly enlarged, right more than left, with the level of the nipples reaching beyond the level of the umbilicus.
