: The number of incidental renal lesions identified in CT scans of the abdomen is increasing. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether hyperdense renal lesions without solid components in a portal venous CT scan can be clearly classified as vascular or non-vascular by material decomposition into iodine and water. This retrospective single-center study included 26 patients (mean age 72 years ± 9; 16 male) with 42 hyperdense renal lesions (>20 HU) in a contrast-enhanced Photon-Counting Detector CT scan (PCD-CT) between May and December 2022.

Introduction: MET amplification (METamp) can be a de novo or acquired resistance driver; however, the definition of METamp that best captures patients who may respond to targeted therapy remains debated. We explored the genomic landscape of METamp NSCLC including degree of amplification, co-drivers, amplicon size, and outcomes to MET inhibitors.

Methods: Hybrid-capture NGS-based genomic profiling from 88,547 tissue and 12,428 liquid NSCLC samples were queried for METamp (copy number (CN) ≥ ploidy + 4, or amplification ratio (AmpRatio; [CN/sample ploidy] ≥ 3).

How amino acids intercalate in CaFe layered double hydroxides: A combined RIXS and NEXAFS study.

Two-dimensional layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are ideal candidates for a large number of (bio)catalytic applications due to their flexible composition and easy to tailor properties. Functionality can be achieved by intercalation of amino acids (as the basic units of peptides and proteins). To gain insight on the functionality, we apply resonant inelastic soft x-ray scattering and near edge x-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to CaFe LDH in its pristine form as well as intercalated with the amino acids proline and cysteine to probe the electronic structure and its changes upon intercalation.

Background And Purpose: Diagnosis of tumefactive demyelination can be challenging. The diagnosis of indeterminate brain lesions on MRI often requires tissue confirmation via brain biopsy. Noninvasive methods for accurate diagnosis of tumor and non-tumor etiologies allows for tailored therapy, optimal tumor control, and a reduced risk of iatrogenic morbidity and mortality.

Are we systematically overdosing women? Revisiting standardized contrast protocols for thoracoabdominal CT scans.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the iodine contrast in blood and solid organs differs between men and women and to evaluate the effect of BMI, height, weight, and blood volume (BV) on sex-specific contrast in staging CT.

Materials And Methods: Patients receiving a venous-phase thoracoabdominal Photon-Counting Detector CT (PCD-CT) scan with 100- or 120-mL CM between 08/2021 and 01/2022 were retrospectively included in this single-center study. Image analysis was performed by measuring iodine contrast in the liver, portal vein, spleen, left atrium, left ventricle, pulmonary trunk, ascending and descending aorta on spectral PCD-CT datasets.

Introduction: Children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental and psychiatric comorbidities, particularly autism spectrum disorder and developmental delays (ASD/DD), present unique challenges in pediatric emergency department (PED) settings. Youths with ASD/DD are prone to sensory overload and frequently exhibit agitation and/or aggression, necessitating specialized interventions. However, PEDs lack standardized protocols for managing behavioral dysregulation in this vulnerable population, often relying on anecdotal treatment approaches that hinder the provision of safe, effective and individualized care.

We hypothesized that body position modulates the contribution of abdominal (AB) and thoracic breathing (TB) to the breathing cycle (BC), as well as respiratory rate (RR). In addition, we hypothesized that physical activity level can increase the contribution of abdominal breathing.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the possibility of image improvement of ECG-gated, high-pitch computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the thoracoabdominal aorta before transaortic valve replacement (TAVR) on a novel dual-source photon-counting detector CT (PCD-CT) in the setting of suboptimal low-contrast attenuation.

Methods: Continuously examined patients who underwent an ECG-gated, high-pitch CTA of the aorta on a PCD-CT with a contrast decrease of at least 50% between the ascending aorta and the common femoral arteries (CFA) were included. Patient characteristics were documented.

The chloride transporter-channel SLC26A9 is mediated by a reciprocal regulatory mechanism through the interaction between its cytoplasmic STAS domain and the R domain of CFTR. In vertebrate Slc26a9s, the STAS domain structures are interrupted by a disordered loop which is conserved in mammals but is variable in non-mammals. Despite the numerous studies involving the STAS domains in SLC26 proteins, the role of the disordered loop region has not been identified.

However, before the secondary use of health data, it is essential to assess the quality at the source and to develop systematic methods for the assessment of important data quality dimensions.

Objective: This case study aims to offer a dual aim-to assess the data quality of height and weight measurements across 7 Belgian hospitals, focusing on the dimensions of completeness and consistency, and to outline the obstacles these hospitals face in sharing and improving data quality standards.

Does going against the norm on women's economic participation increase intimate partner violence risk? A cross-sectional, multi-national study.

Background: Women's economic empowerment (WEE) is believed to reduce the risk of intimate partner violence (IPV), yet the relationship between WEE and IPV has proven to be highly variable. Little attention has been given to how the normative WEE environment may influence this relationship across different settings. This study tests whether IPV is associated with Vanguard WEE, defined as individual economic participation that deviates from community norms.

Is the Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansion in the USA associated with reductions in intimate partner violence victimisation?

Objective: Intimate partner violence (IPV) affects an estimated 47% of women living in the USA in their lifetime and is associated with increased risk of physical and mental health concerns. Current prevention efforts focus on individual and family-level interventions rather than macrosystem-level policies. Thus, we sought to test the effects of Medicaid expansion on the rates of IPV and violence more broadly.

Objective: To investigate retinal vascular permeability mapping as a potential biomarker for diabetic retinopathy in subjects with diabetes with no signs of retinopathy and with mild nonproliferative retinopathy.

Design: This is a case-control study.

Subjects: Participants included 7 healthy controls, 22 subjects with diabetes mellitus and no clinical signs of retinopathy (DMnoDR), and 7 subjects with mild nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR).

Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors (CDKIs) in combination with endocrine therapy (ET) are the standard-of-care in the first-line treatment of HR-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer. In the absence of direct head-to-head trials comparing the efficacy and safety of the different CDKIs, the individual choice of treatment in everyday practice is complex. Inverse probability of treatment weighting was used to emulate a head-to-head comparison of palbociclib +ET (PALBO) and ribociclib +ET (RIBO) in patients recruited into the prospective, observational, multicenter registry platform OPAL (NCT03417115).

Background: Tooth autotransplantation is a reliable procedure with high long-term success and survival rates, showing many advantages over dental implants, particularly for young patients in craniofacial development. Nonetheless, insufficient bone availability at the recipient site is a key limitation. This study aims to establish the feasibility of tooth autotransplantation combined with staged or simultaneous bone regeneration to address complex cases.
