Dr. Henrik Sjögren after whom Sjögren's Syndrome is named, was a Swedish ophthalmologist who identified the syndrome which had three main symptoms namely, dry eyes, dry mouth, and arthritis. His contributions also highlighted the systemic complications of the syndrome which made our understanding of this disease better.

Harnessing the organo-palladium intermediates generated from electrophilic cyclizations for tandem C-C bond construction is a challenging task but constitutes an excellent tool for constructing complex motifs from simpler substrates. We realize herein such a cyclative annulation of alkynyl-oxime ethers with maleimides for the facile construction of isoxazole-phthalimide hybrid motifs through Pd(II) catalysis. This protocol features excellent regio-selectivity in C-H selection, a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and scalability.

Sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) is a biological trait associated with enhanced awareness of and responsivity to the environment, as well as depth of cognitive processing. However, only a few studies have investigated how contextual factors impact cognition as a function of SPS. Thus, this study examined whether SPS is associated with differential changes in cognitive function resulting from participation in a 4-week app-based cognitive training program with neurofeedback (CT-NF).

The C-H functionalization strategy provides access to valuable molecules that previously required convoluted synthetic attempts. Dual C-H unsymmetrical functionalization, with a single bifunctional reagent, is an effective tactic. Propargyl alcohols (PAs), despite containing a reactive C≡C bond, have not been explored as building blocks via oxidative cleavage.

A synthetic strategy that efficiently constructs complex molecular diversity in a few steps will always be embraced by organic chemists. Here, we report a cascade reaction of enynones with enaminones carbene insertion and aryl migration to engineer distinctive multisubstituted furans with an all-carbon quaternary center, and could extend the protocol in the same pot towards furano-pyrrole bis-heterocycles. Heterogeneity of this protocol was proved with the upshot of divergent chemical space under a relatively mild reaction environment.

This study examined the effects of a 4-week cognitive training program with neurofeedback (CT-NF) among 86 healthy adults (M = 66.34 years, range 54-84) randomized to either a treatment (app-based ABC games) or control (Tetris) group. Participants completed seven cognitive assessments, pre- and post-intervention, and measured their cortical brain activity using a XB-01 functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) brain sensor, while engaging in CT-NF.

We present here a rhodium-catalyzed oxidative three-point double annulation of enaminones with propargylic alcohols via a C-H and a C-N bond activation to access arylnaphthalene-based lignan derivatives. The key step in the reaction is the regioselective insertion of propargylic alcohol into the rhoda-cycle, a result of hydroxyl rhodium coordination. Necessary control experiments and KIE studies were conducted to determine the mechanism.

An unprecedented [2+2+1] hydrative annulation of 1,6-enynes with terminal alkynes is achieved using catalytic cationic Rh(I). Thus, a modular assembly of cyclopenta[b]benzofuranols with two consecutive quarternary stereocenters is achieved from readily available alkynes. The reaction is proposed to go through a sequence of 5-membered rhoda-cycle formation, regioselective acetylene insertion, 1,5 H-shift, substrate controlled stereoselective addition of water molecule followed by 1,2-rhodium migration gave contracted rhoda-cycle D and reductive elimination.

Trauma remains a major public health concern due to the high cost, associated morbidity, and mortality both in developed and developing countries. Management of polytrauma patients has advanced and improved over the last few decades with a better understanding of the pathophysiology of shock, resuscitation, and hemodynamic changes. Anaesthesia and application of anaesthetic principles have consequently evolved and can be applied in polytrauma patients throughout their journey of treatment beginning from pre-hospital care, emergency department resuscitation, surgical procedures, and rehabilitation.

The role of anesthesiologist in nonoperating room procedures including pulmonary interventions is expanding. Bronchial thermoplasty (BT) is a minimally invasive bronchoscopic intervention for patients with severe asthma refractory to conventional pharmacotherapy. It involves the application of controlled radiofrequency thermal energy to large- and medium-sized airways.

Cytoreductive surgeries (CRSs) are the common management modality for advanced cancers. The perioperative period is impacted by major surgical resection and its associated effects. The surgical morbidity is further enhanced when the resection of abdominal and thoracic cavity is required simultaneously.
