Water pollution because of the presence of heavy metals remains a serious worry. The present work demonstrates the exclusion of cobalt ion (or Co(II)) from water using novel and cost-effective biosorbents. Initially, the biosorbent was chemically modified using orthophosphoric acid and then subjected to calcination to result acid modified date seed biochar (AMDB).

Utilizing metal/nanoparticle (NP)- tolerant plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) is a sustainable and eco-friendly approach for remediation of NP-induced phytotoxicity. Here, Pisum sativum (L.) plants co-cultivated with different CuO-NP concentrations exhibited reduced growth, leaf pigments, yield attributes, and increased oxidative stress levels.

Tuta absoluta is one of the most destructive pests of tomatoes. Chemical insecticides used to control this leafminer harm all organisms, increasing the risk to public health and the environment. Developing natural alternatives, such as bioinsecticides formulated from essential plant oils, is a key strategy to address this problem.

Salinity stress disrupts water uptake and nutrient absorption, causing reduced photosynthesis, stunted growth, and decreased crop yields in plants. The use of indole acetic acid (IAA), arginine (AN), and mango fruit waste biochar (MFWB) can be effective methods to overcome this problem. Indole acetic acid (IAA) is a natural auxin hormone that aids cell elongation and division, thereby increasing plant height and branching.

Introduction: Monitoring the morphological features of the gestational sac (GS) and measuring the mean sac diameter (MSD) during early pregnancy are essential for predicting spontaneous miscarriage and estimating gestational age (GA). However, the manual process is labor-intensive and highly dependent on the sonographer's expertise. This study aims to develop an automated pipeline to assist sonographers in accurately segmenting the GS and estimating GA.

Background: In rare circumstances, an implanted deep brain stimulation device will develop impedance issues across its contacts. Even more rare is the resultant inability to program a patient effectively, or that the patients' prior programming settings become unusable.

Objective: In this study we investigate this occurrence across the device manufacturers implanted, and whether this could be resolved.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates delivery outcomes in second pregnancies of women who had elective caesarean sections for breech presentation in their first pregnancies, highlighting ongoing debates about breech management.
  • Conducted at Jinnah International Hospital, the research gathered data from 321 women, revealing that only 18.7% were able to achieve vaginal delivery in their second pregnancy, while 81.3% chose repeat caesarean sections.
  • Key reasons for repeat caesarean included recurrent breech presentations and foetal distress, emphasizing the challenges faced by these women with subsequent pregnancies.

Background: This study compares Selective Amygdalohippocampectomy (SAHE) and Anterior Temporal Lobectomy (ATL) for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), focusing on seizure control and visual field deficits (VFD). While previous research suggests potential benefits of SAHE, this meta-analysis aims to clarify the comparative effectiveness of bothprocedures.

Methods: This study adhered to PRISMA guidelines, comparing seizure outcomes and VFDs between SAHE and ATL for temporal lobe epilepsy.

Pesticides and antibiotics usually sink into soil, posing serious phytotoxic effects on plants. However, studies are elusive regarding the phytotoxic effects of fungicide Consento (CON) and antibiotic ampicillin (AMP) co-exposure. Nitric oxide (NO) is an important plant signaling molecule known for abiotic stress tolerance in plants.

Integrating photocatalysis with electrocatalysis may represent a synergistic approach to address environmental and energy challenges. In this context, we explored synthesizing a series of nanocomposite materials using a solid-state approach involving simple grinding and subsequent thermal treatment for the photocatalytic purification of dinoseb and electrocatalytic oxygen evolution (OER). Interestingly, among the series of synthesized materials, 40 wt percentage of 3D/2D/1D:ZnFeO/NiAl-LDH/MWCNTs ternary nanocomposite (40-NZM) showed highly improved dinoseb detoxification and OER efficiencies compared to those of pure materials.

Predicting rainfall is a challenging and critical task due to its significant impact on society. Timely and accurate predictions are essential for minimizing human and financial losses. The dependence of approximately 60% of agricultural land in India on monsoon rainfall implies the crucial nature of accurate rainfall prediction.

Flexible thermoelectric (TE) generators have received great attention as a sustainable and reliable option to convert heat from the human body and other ambient sources into electricity. This study provides a synthesis route that involves thermally induced diffusion to introduce Te and Se into Bi, fabricating an n-type Bi-Te-Se flexible thin film on a flexible substrate. This specific synthesis alters the crystal orientation (00) of the thin film, improving in-plane electrical transportation and optimizing carrier concentration.

  • Maxillofacial fractures can lead to significant weight loss and reduced bite force due to trauma affecting facial muscles and bones.
  • A study with 40 patients divided into control and study groups investigated the impact of whey protein supplements alongside a modified diet over six weeks.
  • Results indicated that the whey protein group maintained body weight, had improved bite force, and showed earlier healing, suggesting better recovery outcomes.

  • Nitrogen deficiency in low organic matter soils negatively impacts crop yield and plant health, particularly for tomato plants.
  • A study investigated the effects of indole acetic acid (IAA), trehalose (TA), and nanoparticles-coated urea (NPCU) on nitrogen-deficient tomatoes, finding that a combination of 2mM IAA and 0.1% TA with NPCU significantly enhanced several growth metrics.
  • The findings suggest that this combination can be an effective strategy for improving growth and yield in nitrogen-poor soils and should be tested further across different crops and climates.

Early-onset, severe retinal dystrophy can be isolated or syndromic, presenting as part of an underlying systemic disease. Mainzer-Saldino syndrome, a rare systemic ciliopathy characterized by skeletal and renal disease, is caused by recessive mutations in the intraflagellar transport 140 chlamydomonas homologue (IFT140) gene. We present a series of 13 cases of early-onset retinal dysfunction with confirmed IFT140 mutations from 8 unrelated Saudi families belonging to 3 well-known tribes.

Background: Neutrophils, the most abundant leukocytes circulating in blood, contribute to host defense and play a significant role in chronic inflammatory disorders. They can release their DNA in the form of extracellular traps (NETs), which serve as scaffolds for capturing bacteria and various blood cells. However, uncontrolled formation of NETs (NETosis) can lead to excessive activation of coagulation pathways and thrombosis.
