Objectives: To extract intratumoral, peritumoral, and integrated intratumoral-peritumoral CT radiomic features, develop multi-source radiomic models using various machine learning algorithms to identify the optimal model, and integrate clinical factors to establish a nomogram for predicting the therapeutic response to induction therapy(IT) in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

Methods: This study included 209 patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (LA-NSCLC) who received IT as the training cohort, and an external validation cohort comprising 50 patients from another center. Radiomic features were extracted from intratumoral, peritumoral, and integrated intratumoral-peritumoral regions by manually delineating the gross tumor volume (GTV) and an additional 3 mm surrounding area.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common form of liver cancer, presents a challenging malignancy with scarce treatment options. Liver progenitor cells (LPCs) play a pivotal role in both liver regeneration and the progression of liver cancer, yet the specific functions of LPCs from different origins in liver cancer remain to be fully elucidated.

Methods: We explored the liver progenitor-like cells derived from human hepatocytes (HepLPCs) on the proliferation of HCC both in vitro and in vivo.

An undescribed jatrophane diterpenoid, euphosorophane N (), along with thirteen known jatrophane diterpenoids (), were isolated from the fructus of , and their chemical structures were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic analysis, including HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR data. The X-ray crystallographic analysis was used to confirm the absolute configurations of compound for the first time. These jatrophane diterpenoids were evaluated for their multidrug resistance (MDR) reversal ability on the cancer cell line HCT-8/Taxol by MTT assay and compounds , , and revealed promising MDR reversal ability compared to verapamil (VRP).

Background: Cell therapy demonstrates promising potential as a substitute therapeutic approach for liver cirrhosis. We have developed a strategy to effectively expand murine and human hepatocyte-derived liver progenitor-like cells (HepLPCs) in vitro. The primary objective of the present study was to apply HepLPCs to the treatment of liver cirrhosis and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms responsible for their therapeutic efficacy.

An unprecedented synergistic copper- and amine-catalyzed cyclization of enynone is reported. This reaction features an efficient and straightforward construction of multisubstituted tetralone through an amine-assisted regioselective oxygen atom transfer process and stereoselective intramolecular Michael addition cyclization. Under dehydrative reaction conditions, the synthesis of tetrahydronaphthylimine derivatives with ketone group tolerance is achieved, which could be challenging via traditional methods.

Background And Purpose: Esophageal cancer-related gene-4 (ECRG4) participate in inflammation process and can interact with the innate immunity complex TLR4-MD2-CD14 on human granulocytes. In addition, ECRG4 participate in modulation of ion channel function and electrical activity of cardiomyocytes. However, the exact mechanism is unknown.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The current treatment for diabetic nephropathy (DN) is inadequate, and there is an urgent need for an effective and minimally adverse alternative therapy. Da-Chai-Hu Decoction (DCHD) is a time-honored herbal remedy from Chinese medicine, boasting a legacy spanning more than 1800 years. Clinical observations suggest that it may provide therapeutic benefits for individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

As the ability of liver regeneration is pivotal for liver disease patients, it will be of high significance and importance to identify the missing piece of the jigsaw influencing the liver regeneration. Here, we report that chronic stress impairs the liver regeneration capacity after partial hepatectomy with increased mortality in male mice. Anatomical tracing and functional mapping identified a neural circuit from noradrenergic neurons in the locus coeruleus (LC) to serotonergic neurons in the rostral medullary raphe region (rMR), which critically contributes to the inhibition of liver regeneration under chronic stress.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hepatocyte-derived liver progenitor-like cells (HepLPCs) help improve liver recovery in animals with acute liver failure by detoxifying ammonia, enhancing liver regeneration, and reducing inflammation.
  • - Research on HepLPC-derived extracellular vesicles (HepLPC-EVs) revealed that these vesicles promote liver regeneration in mice and stimulate primary human hepatocyte growth through the microRNA miR-183-5p.
  • - The mechanism involves miR-183-5p downregulating the FoxO1 gene, which activates key signaling pathways (Akt/GSK3β/β-catenin) that facilitate liver restoration during acute liver failure.

Alternative splicing is a fundamental process that contributes to the functional diversity and complexity of proteins. The regulation of each alternative splicing event involves the coordinated action of multiple RNA-binding proteins, creating a diverse array of alternatively spliced products. Dysregulation of alternative splicing is associated with various diseases, including neurodegeneration.

Treating psoriasis presents a major clinical challenge because of the limitations associated with traditional topical glucocorticoid therapy. This study introduced a drug delivery system utilizing zinc-doped mesoporous silica nanoparticle (Zn-MSN) and microneedle (MN), designed to enhance drug utilization for prolonged anti-inflammatory and anti-itch effects. The MN system facilitated the transdermal delivery of betamethasone dipropionate (BD), allowing its slow release.

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between nutritional scoring systems, nutritional support methods, and the prognosis of severe and critically ill patients infected with the Omicron variant of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: Patients with confirmed Omicron variant severe and critical COVID-19, who were admitted to Chongqing Medical University First Hospital between December 2022 and January 2023, were enrolled into this retrospective study. Clinical data of patients who survived for 28 days were compared with those who died during the same period.

Long-distance transport or systemic silencing effects of exogenous biologically active RNA molecules in higher plants have not been reported. Here, we report that cationized bovine serum albumin (cBSA) avidly binds double-stranded beta-glucuronidase RNA (dsGUS RNA) to form nucleic acid-protein nanocomplexes. In our experiments with tobacco and poplar plants, we have successfully demonstrated systemic gene silencing effects of cBSA/dsGUS RNA nanocomplexes when we locally applied the nanocomplexes from the basal ends of leaf petioles or shoots.
