Compared to the number of studies on the neoplasms of laboratory rodents, fewer studies have focused on spontaneous neoplasms in pet rodents. Notably, the mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) is associated with mammary tumors in rodents. In this study, 77 tumors and tumor-like lesions of biopsy samples were collected from 70 pet rodents, including hamsters (n = 47), guinea pigs (n = 16), unknown species (n = 4), rats (n = 2), and a gerbil.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria are widespread in the environment and pose a serious threat to public health. It has been shown that bacteriocins have a great potential in controlling MDR pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus. A previously reported Lactobacillus salivarius bacteriocin XJS01 exhibited good antibacterial activity against MDR S.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores how different roles (like being a mother or employee) affect women's leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) levels, especially in the context of multiple role theory.
  • It uses data from the 2013 National Health Interview Survey involving 5,147 working-age women to analyze the relationship between these roles and physical activity.
  • Findings indicate that single mothers tend to be less active than partnered mothers, and women juggling multiple roles are at higher risk of inactivity, highlighting the need for social support to help address these disparities.

Social capital potentially affects older adults' access to healthcare services. However, the effects of social capital on the use of various types of healthcare services using longitudinal data have yet to be explored. This study aimed to examine the effects of structural and cognitive social capital on different types of healthcare utilization by older adults in Indonesia.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) has a poor prognosis and lacks effective treatment. Anlotinib is a multitargeted receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that may have anti-tumor activity in the central nervous system (CNS). This study aimed to determine the therapeutic value of radiotherapy combined with anlotinib in GBM via preclinical research.

Background: The risk factors for skin injuries remain poorly understood in cancer patients with peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). We herein aimed at exploring the effect of clinical factors on the risk of PICC-related skin injuries.

Methods: We included 1245 cancer patients with PICC from 16 hospitals in Suzhou, China.

Background: In Taiwan, the National Health Insurance Administration initiated the integrated home-based medical care (iHBMC) program in 2016 to improve accessibility to health care for homebound patients. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of older people receiving iHBMC services in Taiwan as well as the relationship between patient characteristics and survival.

Methods: All older adults registered in the iHBMC application dataset were enrolled between March 1, 2016, and December 31, 2018.

Our study aimed to explore the impact of different home- and community-based service (HCBS) use patterns on older adults' physical function. The cohort data were drawn from two national datasets, the National Ten-Year Long-Term Care Plan 1.0 database and the National Health Insurance Program claims data.

Objective: To retrospectively analyze the efficacy and safety of ruxolitinib therapy for children with thalassemia after unrelated or haploidentical stem cell transplantation.

Methods: From March 2020 to March 2021, 22 patients received successfully allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the Zhongshan Hospital of Xiamen University, from +30 to 100 days, those patients received ruxolitinib therapy (2.5 mg, twice daily) and all adverse reactions were observed, include aGVHD, cGVHD, CMV and EBV infection.

Introduction: Medical-related long-term care (LTC) service use among community-dwelling older adults in Taiwan is resource-intensive, and planning is essential to promote aging-in-place.

Methods: Administrative data from 4/1/2017 to 11/26/2019 among more than 14,000 residents were analyzed with generalized estimating equations (GEEs) to identify determinants of medical-related LTC service use.

Results: Older adults using medical-related LTC services tended to be younger (79.

Swine coronaviruses include the following six members, namely porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), porcine delta coronavirus (PDCoV), swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV), porcine hemagglutinating encephalomyelitis virus (PHEV), and porcine respiratory coronavirus (PRCV). Clinically, PEDV, TGEV, PDCoV, and SADS-CoV cause enteritis, whereas PHEV induces encephalomyelitis, and PRCV causes respiratory disease. Years of studies reveal that swine coronaviruses replicate in the cellular cytoplasm exerting a wide variety of effects on cells.

For its second decade, Taiwan's National 10-Year Long-Term Care Plan launched a policy of reinforcing home- and community-based services (HCBSs) with a focus on reablement. This study aimed to (1) identify the distinct service use patterns of reablement-embedded HCBS and (2) examine the effects of these service patterns on functional improvements among older care recipients, including among groups with different levels of care needs. We collected 2018 data from the Long-Term Care Service Management System for care recipients in one county located in central Taiwan (N = 4735).

Background: Researchers have emphasized the importance of examining how different factors affect men's and women's functional status over time. To date, the literature is unclear about whether sex affects the rate of change in disability in middle to older age. Researchers have further emphasized the importance of examining how different factors affect men's and women's functional status over time.

Objective: To study the inhibitory effect of berberine hydrochloride (BBR) on BPH and its underlying mechanism in male rats.

Methods: Forty male rats were randomly divided into a normal control, a BPH model control, a BBR intervention, and a BBR+Bruceol intervention group, and the BPH model was established in the latter three groups. The animals in the normal and BPH model control groups were treated intragastrically with normal saline, and those in the BBR and BBR+Bruceol intervention groups with BBR at 200 mg/kg and BBR plus Bruceol at 1 mg/kg, respectively, once a day for 14 consecutive days.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) infection leads to diarrhea and subsequently to decreased feed efficiency and growth in weaned pigs. Given that few studies have addressed the host-virus interaction in vivo, this study focused on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and unfolded protein response (UPR) in jejunal epithelial cells during PEDV infection. Eight-week-old pigs ( = 64) were orally inoculated with PEDV IN19338 strain ( = 40) or sham-inoculated ( = 24) and analyzed for PEDV viral RNA shedding using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and for viral antigen within enterocytes using immunohistochemistry (IHC).
