Background: Twelve bacterial families were identified as global priority pathogens by the World Health Organization in 2017, recognizing the greatest threat they pose to human health and the declining antibiotic efficacy. Robotics has emerged as a swift and contactless tool for disinfecting bacterial surface contamination in healthcare facilities, however, head-to-head comparison of disinfection efficacy of robotic versus manual disinfections is limited. This study aimed at comparing how robotic disinfection performs over manual disinfection against the global priority pathogens in the healthcare setting.

We report the management of a convexity dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF) in an uncommon anterior superior sagittal sinus (SSS) location. This was a high-risk Cognard IIa+b dAVF, which is notoriously complex to treat. Endoscopic management alone for complex SSS dAVFs is challenging due to the often bilateral arterial supply to the fistula, as demonstrated in this case.

Corneal blindness, a leading cause of visual impairment globally, has created a pressing need for alternatives to corneal transplantation due to the severe shortage of donor tissues. In this study, we present a novel interpenetrating network hydrogel composed of gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) and oxidized carboxymethyl cellulose (OxiCMC) for bioprinting a biomimetic corneal stroma equivalent. We tested different combinations of GelMA and OxiCMC to optimize printability and subsequently evaluated these combinations using rheological studies for gelation and other physical, chemical, and biological properties.

Bioinspired shape-morphing soft magnetic actuators have potential applications in medicine, robotics, and engineering due to their soft body, untethered control, and infinite degrees of freedom. The shape programming of the soft magnetic actuators (consisting of soft ferromagnetic CI particles in a soft matrix) is an involved task, as it requires a moulding process severely limiting the capability to program complex shapes. The current study explores a shape programming technique that architects the particle pattern configuration in the actuator, mimicking the pattern found in the mould-programmed actuator, thereby eliminating the need for a mould and providing a greater capability of programming complex shapes.

The ion binding to the lipid/water interface can substantially influence the structural, functional, and dynamic properties of the cell membrane. Despite extensive research on ion-lipid interactions, the specific effects of ion binding on the polarity and hydration at the lipid/water interface remain poorly understood. This study explores the influence of three biologically relevant divalent cations─Mg, Ca, and Zn─on the depth-dependent interfacial polarity and hydration of zwitterionic DPPC lipid in its gel phase at room temperature.

This study examines the impact of the Westcott g-factor on the concentration of elements like In, Ir, Re, Yb, Eu and Lu, measured using neutron capture reactions (n,γ), specifically focusing on those reactions, whose thermal neutron capture cross-sections (σ ) deviate from the conventional '1/v' behaviour. These measurements are quantified using k₀-based neutron activation analysis. The Westcott g-factor for the non-1/v nuclides was calculated using the characterized neutron temperature (T) at PFTS irradiation channel of KAMINI reactor.

  • Pyrethroid pesticides, particularly deltamethrin (DM), may contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD and autism, but the exact mechanisms are still not fully understood.
  • The study utilized a rodent model to analyze brain-derived extracellular vesicles (BDEVs) from mice exposed to DM and identified 89 differentially expressed proteins linked to mitochondrial function and synaptic plasticity.
  • Ultimately, the research found that BDEVs from DM-exposed mice impaired long-term potentiation (LTP) in hippocampal synapses, suggesting that changes in BDEV signaling play a critical role in the neurotoxic effects of DM.
