Blackcurrant (BC) extract was reported to exert anti-obesity effects. However, it is unknown whether BC extract with a composition close to the totum differentially affects obesity when compared to one of its active compounds. We evaluated the anti-obesity effects of a BC standardized hydro-alcoholic leaf extract (BC-HLE) in an HFD-induced obesity rat model and compared them with quercetin (QUE).

Plants continuously respond to changing environmental conditions to prevent damage and maintain optimal performance. To regulate gas exchange with the environment and to control abiotic stress relief, plants have pores in their leaf epidermis, called stomata. Multiple environmental signals affect the opening and closing of these stomata.

Article Synopsis
  • Tau protein is key in various neurological disorders, but the mechanisms of its progression and spread in the brain remain unclear due to difficulties in analyzing tau aggregates.
  • Using advanced techniques like micro-x-ray diffraction (µXRD) and micro-X-ray fluorescence (μXRF), researchers studied tau lesions in a 79-year-old male with dementia, revealing distinct forms of tau and their locations in the brain.
  • Findings indicated that different types of tau lesions had unique chemical environments, affecting their structure and spread, with higher fibrillar tau density linked to greater sulfur deposition and the presence of metals like zinc and calcium in all tau lesions.

Non-Gaussian states of light, such as Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill states, are essential resources for optical continuous-variable quantum computing. The ability to efficiently produce these states would open up tremendous prospects for quantum technologies in general and fault-tolerant quantum computing in particular. This letter demonstrates a versatile method using a quantum-memory cavity to mitigate the consequences of the probabilistic nature of the breeding protocols and generate non-Gaussian states at high rates with scalability perspectives.
