Atten Percept Psychophys
January 2025
Previous studies have reported visual motion aftereffects (MAEs) following prolonged exposure to auditory stimuli depicting motion, such as ascending or descending musical scales. The role of attention in modulating these cross-modal MAEs, however, remains unclear. The present study manipulated the level of attention directed to musical scales depicting motion and assessed subsequent changes in MAE strength.

Methods: Eight focus groups were conducted with 92 participants who were members of the 3 populations in Atlanta between November 2022 and March 2023.
Results: Although there were variations among groups, all groups emphasized diversity within their community as the foundation of community strength.
Background: Screen time is on the rise among youth, and as a result, cyberbullying victimization has become increasingly prevalent. While prior research has established a positive correlation between screen usage and cyberbullying victimization, a paucity of research has explored how motives for screen usage are associated with cyberbullying victimization and moderate the positive association between screen usage and cyberbullying victimization.
Objective: The present study sought to address these research gaps by exploring the association between motives for screen usage and cyberbullying victimization and examining whether these motives moderate the association between screen time and cyberbullying.
Plastic products contain complex mixtures of chemical compounds that are incorporated into polymers to improve material properties. Besides the intentional chemical additives, other compounds including residual monomers and non-intentionnaly added substances (NIAS) as well as sorbed pollutants are usually also present in aged plastic. Since most of these substances are only loosely bound to the polymer via non-covalently interactions, i.

How anesthesiology trainees understand the concept of "nonphysician obligations" and are impacted by these obligations is incompletely understood. The objective of the study was to identify how anesthesiology trainees define "nonphysician obligations," which obligations impact trainee education, and what attitudes trainees hold.

Restoring prehension abilities is challenging for individuals who have not recovered active hand opening capacities after their rehabilitation. Self-triggered functional electrical stimulation applied to finger extensor muscles to restore grasping abilities in daily life is called grasp neuroprosthesis (GNP) and remains poorly accessible to the post-stroke population.

Understanding the physiological and metabolic responses to such variability is crucial for predicting how these species will cope with changing climates. This study investigates how chronic thermal stress impacts mitochondrial metabolism and physiological parameters in Drosophila melanogaster, hypothesizing that a fluctuating thermal regime (FTR) activates protective mechanisms enhancing stress tolerance and longevity.

Radar sensors have emerged as a critical tool in capturing precise velocity data, which is fundamental for generating reliable force-velocity (FV) profiles. This study focuses on the fitting of radar sensor data to various sprint modelling techniques to enhance the accuracy of these profiles.

It is a rare but impactful surgery, with significant bio-psycho-social consequences. As some countries moves towards centralization to improve patient outcomes, a demographic analysis of current management in France is needed.

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is caused by repetitive head impacts (RHI) and is characterized by sulcal tau pathology. However, quantitative assessments of regional neurodegeneration in CTE have not been described.

Using nasopharyngeal swab samples from hospitalized patients with COVID-19 of varying severity during the first wave of the pandemic from March to May 2020 in Louisiana, we evaluated the association between COVID-19 severity and viral load, respiratory immune mediators, and demographic/clinical factors. We found that the SpO/FiO ratio at triage, total comorbidity burden (represented by Charlson Comorbidity Index), and gender were significantly associated with COVID-19 severity.

Therefore, we sought to longitudinally assess the impact of omalizumab on serum cytokines in CIAO trial patients to determine its mechanism of action.
Methods: Blood samples were collected on days 0, 2, 7, and 14 from patients recruited into the CIAO trial and who consented to this substudy.
Most respiratory microbiome studies use amplicon sequencing due to high host DNA. Metagenomics sequencing offers finer taxonomic resolution, phage assessment, and functional characterization. We evaluated five host DNA depletion methods on frozen nasal swabs from healthy adults, sputum from people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF), and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) from critically ill patients.

Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

Current compression/release stabilized (CRS) socket designs may pose a risk to soft tissue from abrupt compression differences within the socket.Objectives:Density-graded lattice structures are investigated for their potential to mitigate risk of tissue damage by assessing their ability to produce more gradual transitions between high-compression and low-compression areas.

November 2024
Background: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) are becoming essential parts of a learning health system, and using these measures is a promising approach for value-based healthcare. However, evidence regarding healthcare professional and patient organizations' knowledge, use and perception of PROMs and PREMs is lacking.
Objectives: The objectives of the study were to: 1- Describe the current knowledge and use of PROMs and PREMs by healthcare professional and patient organizations, 2- Describe the determinants of PROMs and PREMs implementation according to healthcare professional and patient organizations.
Objective: To assess the association between the decrease in the use of episiotomy and the incidence of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS) over a 10-year period and understand their reasons by interviewing obstetricians and midwives.
Design: Mixed-methods study.
Setting: A tertiary university public maternity hospital, Paris, France.
The first search for the Z boson decay to ττμμ at the CERN LHC is presented, based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb^{-1}. The data are compatible with the predicted background. For the first time, an upper limit at the 95% confidence level of 6.

They have important roles in organismal physiology, including development, reproduction, acclimation to environmental stress, while their dysregulation can lead to disease, including several forms of cancer. Identifying the complement of protein kinases (the kinome) of any organism is useful for understanding its physiological capabilities, limitations and adaptations to environmental stress.
