  • Out of 19,299 patients, 589 (3.1%) received IONM, and those patients had higher pre-existing cerebrovascular diseases, resulting in increased rates of operative mortality (5.3% vs 2.5%) and stroke (4.9% vs 1.9%).
  • However, after adjusting for patient characteristics, there was no significant difference in stroke or mortality rates between IONM users and non-users, suggesting that IONM may indicate risks rather than directly influence outcomes.

Background/objectives: School-based nutrition education interventions can support the development of children's food literacy and healthy eating habits. The Foodbot Factory serious game was developed to support school nutrition education based on Canada's Food Guide and Ontario curriculum. Background: Hypereosinophilic syndromes (HES) are defined as hypereosinophilia with eosinophil-related clinical manifestations, some of which overlap in presentation with asthma, atopic dermatitis, eosinophilic esophagitis, and/or chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. Dupilumab is approved to treat these conditions but can induce a transient rise in the absolute eosinophil count and rare eosinophil-related complications.

Clouded leopards are notoriously difficult to manage under human care due to their tendency toward high stress, intersex aggression, and limited reproductive success. This case study investigated the endocrinological interplay between adrenal and ovarian steroids and describes a positive correlation between concentrations of fecal estrogen and glucocorticoid metabolites in a female clouded leopard. The female was monitored through two sampling periods approximately 16 months apart, and each data set yielded similar results using a simple linear regression model.

Background: In test-negative studies of vaccine effectiveness (VE), including patients with co-circulating, vaccine-preventable, respiratory pathogens in the control group for the pathogen of interest can introduce a downward bias on VE estimates.

Methods: A multicenter sentinel surveillance network in the US prospectively enrolled adults hospitalized with acute respiratory illness from September 1, 2022-March 31, 2023. We evaluated bias in estimates of VE against influenza-associated and COVID-19-associated hospitalization based on: inclusion vs exclusion of patients with a co-circulating virus among VE controls; observance of VE against the co-circulating virus (rather than the virus of interest), unadjusted and adjusted for vaccination against the virus of interest; and observance of influenza or COVID-19 against a sham outcome of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

A pain inequity exists for Native Americans (NAs), but the mechanisms are poorly understood. The Oklahoma Study of Native American Pain Risk (OK-SNAP) addressed this issue and recruited healthy, pain-free NAs and non-Hispanic Whites (NHWs) to attend 2 laboratory visits and assessed mechanisms consistent with the biopsychosocial model of pain: demographics, physical variables, psychosocial factors, and nociceptive/pain phenotypes.
