Predicting the 3D structure of RNA is a significant challenge despite ongoing advancements in the field. Although AlphaFold has successfully addressed this problem for proteins, RNA structure prediction raises difficulties due to the fundamental differences between proteins and RNA, which hinder its direct adaptation. The latest release of AlphaFold, AlphaFold3, has broadened its scope to include multiple different molecules such as DNA, ligands and RNA.

This study aimed to explore stakeholders' viewpoints on how patients and families should engage in preventing health care-associated infections in hospital settings.
Methods: The authors employed Q-methodology, a mixed methods approach combining by-person factor analysis with in-depth interviews to capture shared viewpoints among participants.
Background: Black women and other minorities have higher age adjusted incidence risk for cervical and endometrial cancer than White women. However, the extent of racial and ethnic disparities in clinical trial enrollment among studies performed mainly in North America and Europe for gynecologic malignancy is unknown.
Objective: This study analyzed enrollment rates by race/ethnicity in trials that led to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approvals for gynecological cancers from 2010 to 2024.
Background: Radioactive iodine (RAI) is a common treatment for various thyroid diseases. Previous studies have suggested susceptibility of parathyroid glands to the mutagenic effect of RAI and the development of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). We tested the possible link between prior RAI treatment, disease presentation, and treatment outcomes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLarge-bodied pelagic sharks are key regulators of oceanic ecosystem stability, but highly impacted by severe overfishing. One such species, the shortfin mako shark (), a globally widespread, highly migratory predator, has undergone dramatic population reductions and is now Endangered (IUCN Red List), with Atlantic Ocean mako sharks in particular assessed by fishery managers as overfished and in need of urgent, improved management attention. Genomic-scale population assessments for this apex predator species have not been previously available to inform management planning; thus, we investigated the population genetics of mako sharks across the Atlantic using a bi-organelle genomics approach.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLower risk (LR) myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are heterogeneous hematopoietic stem and progenitor disorders caused by the accumulation of somatic mutations in various genes including epigenetic regulators that may produce convergent DNA methylation patterns driving specific gene expression profiles. The integration of genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic profiling has the potential to spotlight distinct LR-MDS categories on the basis of pathophysiological mechanisms. We performed a comprehensive study of somatic mutations and DNA methylation in a large and clinically well-annotated cohort of treatment-naive patients with LR-MDS at diagnosis from the EUMDS registry (ClinicalTrials.

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) as environmentally friendly and innovative management approach can be used to produce seedlings better adapted to these environments. We tested native PGPR strains isolated from drought-tolerant tree and shrub species originating from two climatically contrasting regions: hot-dry (Dehloran) and milder Mediterranean climate (Ilam).

This often entails merging the linear deductive approach of health research with the explorative iterative approach of data science. However, there is a lack of structured teaching courses and guidance on how to effectively and constructively bridge different disciplines and research approaches.

However, rates of victimisation within this population have been found to vary by ethnic group and primary diagnosis.
Aims: This study primarily aimed to examine the relationship between victimisation and other- and self-directed violence among a sample of inpatients with SMI during the first 3 months of admission.
Soil microbes are among the most abundant and diverse organisms on Earth but remain poorly characterized. New technologies have made possible to sequence the DNA of uncultivated microorganisms in soil and other complex ecosystems. Genome assembly is crucial for understanding their functional potential.

To date, only 11 patients have been reported. The present study adds a further three and aims to provide a more detailed description of the electrodiagnostic features of these patients.

However, pharmacological research suffers from poor reproducibility across clinical, animal, and experimental models. Predictivity can be improved by using Organs-on-Chips, which are more physiological, human-oriented, micro-engineered devices that include microfluidics.

The study of the Brazilian cave mycobiota has revealed a rich but highly diverse assemblage of fungi, with , , and being the most frequently reported genera. The present study investigated the airborne fungi and fungi obtained from the bodies of bats, guano, and the soil/sediment from the caves Urubu (in the Atlantic Forest) and Furna Feia (in the Caatinga dryland forest) in the Northeast region of Brazil. Fungal strains were identified based on morphological features and multilocus phylogenetic analyses of ITS, beta-tubulin (), calmodulin (), and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit () sequences.

The Canadian Ovarian Experimental Unified Resource (COEUR) has created a cohort of 437 FFPE tissue specimens from 108 tubo-ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) patients to quantify ITH across the anatomical sites and between primary and recurrence. We quantified the ITH of six clinically used immunohistochemical diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers (WT1, p53, p16, PR, CD8, and Ki67).

Since a description of the resources used and the implementation costs incurred is necessary to inform policymakers better, this study aimed to estimate the costs associated with its implementation.
Methods: Intervention costs were analyzed using an "ingredients-based costing approach" from the provider's perspective.
Introduction: Augmented reality is a promising technology for enhancing remote medical assistance. It assists users by directly projecting the relevant virtual assistance in the real world at the right moment and at the right location. This modality is called colocalization but has not been validated in parabolic flights.

In this work, we report a functional role for myostatin as an endocrine hormone that directly promotes pituitary follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) synthesis and thereby ovarian function in mice. Previously, this FSH-stimulating role was attributed to other members of the transforming growth factor-β family, the activins.
