Genetic Diversity Based on Coat Protein of Papaya ringspot virus (Pathotype P) Isolates from Bangladesh.

The coat protein (CP) sequences of twelve Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) (pathotype-P) isolates from six major papaya growing areas were determined and compared with those of published PRSV. The CP coding region varied in size from 846-852 nucleotides, encoding a protein of 282-284 amino acids. Comparative CP sequence analysis revealed that the PRSV-P isolates originating from Bangladesh were divergent up to 14 % at amino acids level.

Dyslipidemia in Psoriasis: A Case Controlled Study.

Multiple observational studies have demonstrated associations of psoriasis with metabolic syndrome including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and osteoporosis. However there is paucity of Indian studies on dyslipidemia in psoriasis. The aim of this study was to assess the serum lipids in psoriasis and to investigate the association of lipids with disease severity and its duration.

Advancing mandibular swelling: a diagnostic dilemma.

Asymmetrical swelling of the mandible in adolescence may pose a significant diagnostic dilemma. The differential diagnosis ranges from traumatic, infectious, and metabolic processes to benign and malignant tumors. Also may present with similar clinical and radiological features, making an accurate diagnosis quite difficult.

Rheumatoid Arthritis among Periodontitis Patients in Baddi Industrial Estate of Himachal Pradesh, India: A Cross Sectional Study.

Aim: To determine whether there is a relationship between periodontal disease and rheumatoid arthritis.

Methods: A total of 1520 (852 - periodontal group; 668 - general group) individuals of 30-70 years age group and residents of Baddi industrial estate in Himachal Pradesh, India, were assessed for the prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis and Periodontal Disease (PD). The prevalence and severity of periodontitis were determined by recording the Community Periodontal Index (CPI) with loss of attachment, based on WHO guidelines (1997).

Correlation between oral health and Child-OIDP index in 12- and 15-year-old children from Modinagar, India.

To investigate the relationship between oral health measures and oral health-related quality of life using the Child-Oral Impact on Daily Performance index among school children of Modinagar. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 900 school children aged 12 and 15 years in Modinagar, India. Children were interviewed about sociodental impacts on quality of life and examined for their normative treatment need for dental caries, traumatic dental injuries, and dentofacial anomalies.

Evaluation of panoramic Radiographs as a Screening Tool of Osteoporosis in Post Menopausal Women: A Cross Sectional Study.

Background: Indian women, especially those from low-income groups consume diets that are deficient of calcium, proteins and micronutrients. Hence, they are prone to suffer from osteoporotic hip fractures at a much earlier age than western women. To detect early signs of osteoporosis, it is ideal to perform Bone Mineral Density testing of all post-menopausal women who are at risk.

Bacteriological profile of neonatal septicemia and antibiotic susceptibility pattern of the isolates.

Context: Septicemia in neonates refers to generalized bacterial infection documented by positive blood culture in the first four weeks of life and is one of the four leading causes of neonatal mortality and morbidity in India.

Benign triton tumor: a rare entity in head and neck region.

Benign triton tumors (BTT) are very rare lesions composed of mature skeletal muscle and neural tissue. We report a case of a 14-year-old boy who presented with asymptomatic swelling of the chin over an 18-month duration which increased gradually to involve the left side of the lower lip. Clinically, a diagnosis of neurofibroma was made.

Formulation and characterization of ketoprofen liquisolid compacts by Box-Behnken design.

Introduction: Liquisolid technique is used in delivery of lipophilic and poorly water soluble drugs through oral route. It involves dissolving water insoluble drugs in nonvolatile solvents and converting into acceptably flowing and compressible powders. The objective of the present work was to enhance the dissolution rate of ketoprofen using microcrystalline cellulose as carrier, aerosil 200 as coating material, and polyethylene glycol as nonvolatile water miscible liquid vehicle.

Nimotuzumab, an anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (anti-EGFR) monoclonal antibody, has been used extensively in many solid tumors and confers significant survival advantage. The antibody has limited skin toxicity and is generally well tolerated. Similar to other anti-EGFR therapies, patients may relapse a few months after treatment.

Previous studies highlighted different roles of the 20S proteasome in plant defense during virus infection, either indirectly through viral suppressor-mediated degradation of Argonaute proteins, affecting the RNA interference pathway, or directly through modulation of the proteolytic and RNase activity of the 20S proteasome, a component of the 20S proteasome, by viral proteins, affecting the levels of viral proteins and RNAs. Here we show that MG132, a cell permeable proteasomal inhibitor, caused an increase in papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) accumulation in its natural host papaya (Carica papaya).

Development of Orodispersible Tablets of Candesartan Cilexetil- β -cyclodextrin Complex.

The aim of this study was to investigate the use of inclusion complexation technique employing β-cyclodextrin in improving the dissolution profile of candesartan cilexetil, a BCS class-II drug, and to formulate the inclusion complex into orodispersible tablets. The inclusion complexes were formed by physical mixing, kneading, coevaporation, and lyophilisation methods. Inclusion complexes were characterized by FTIR, DSC, XRD, NMR, and mass spectral studies.

Primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of gingiva in a 28-year-old HIV-positive patient.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is seldom seen in the oral cavity, and has been reported with some frequency in HIV-positive patients. Oral HIV-related lymphomas exhibit an aggressive course and can mimic other oral tumors and infections that make early recognition and diagnosis difficult. This paper presents a case of NHL on the gingiva of a 28-year-old HIV-positive male patient.

Spontaneous thermoreversible formation of cationic vesicles in a protic ionic liquid.

The search for stable vesicular structures is a long-standing topic of research because of the usefulness of these structures and the scarcity of surfactant systems that spontaneously form vesicles in true thermodynamic equilibrium. We report the first experimental evidence of spontaneous formation of vesicles for a pure cationic double tail surfactant (didodecyldimethylammonium bromide, DDAB) in a protic ionic liquid (ethylammonium nitrate, EAN). Using small and ultra-small angle neutron scattering, rheology and bright field microscopy, we identify the coexistence of two vesicle containing phases in compositions ranging from 2 to 68 wt %.

Prepulse inhibition of acoustic startle reflex as a function of the frequency difference between prepulse and background sounds in mice.

Background: Prepulse inhibition (PPI) depicts the effects of a weak sound preceding strong acoustic stimulus on acoustic startle response (ASR). Previous studies suggest that PPI is influenced by physical parameters of prepulse sound such as intensity and preceding time. The present study characterizes the impact of prepulse tone frequency on PPI.

Appraisal of transverse nasal groove: a study.

Background: Transverse nasal groove is a condition of cosmetic concern which awaits due recognition and has been widely described as a shallow groove that extends transversely over the dorsum of nose. However, we observed variations in the clinical presentations of this entity, hitherto undescribed in literature.

Aims: We conducted a clinicoepidemiological study of transverse nasal lesions in patients attending our outpatient department.

Background & Objectives: Psoriasis is a chronic, recurrent skin disorder, with a poorly understood pathogenesis. Studies at molecular/genetic levels continue to explore various biomolecules as potential markers of the disease. In the present study, we sought to evaluate the possible roles of ferritin and iron in psoriasis.

Differential ability of tissue factor antibody clones on detection of tissue factor in blood cells and microparticles.

Introduction: Tissue factor (TF), the primary initiator of coagulation in vivo, plays a major role in both thrombosis and hemostasis. The expression of TF in monocytes is well documented, but its presence in other blood cells has been disputed, possibly due to methodological variations among different studies.

Materials And Methods: We studied TF expression on platelets, monocytes, lymphocytes and microparticles (MPs) by flow cytometry (FCM) with five commercially available mouse anti-human TF antibodies (HTF-1, TF9-10H10, CLB/TF-5, VIC7 and VD8).

Nanotechnology in medicine and relevance to dermatology: present concepts.

Nanotechnology and nanomedicine are complementary disciplines aimed at the betterment of human life. Nanotechnology is an emerging branch of science for designing tools and devices of size 1-100 nm, with unique functions at the cellular, atomic and molecular levels. The concept of using nanotechnology in medical research and clinical practice is known as nanomedicine.

A novel modification of the autoimplantation therapy for the treatment of multiple, recurrent and palmoplantar warts.

Background: Ideal treatment for warts should be effective, safe, have less morbidity and provide long-lasting immunity against human papilloma virus. This can optimally achieved by the stimulation of the immune system against the virus. The autoimplantation of warts, autowart injection and quadrivalent vaccines have been used for this purpose.

Studies on serum 8-hydroxy guanosine (8-OHdG) as reliable biomarker for psoriasis.

Background: Oxidative stress was implicated in the psoriasis disease development and may damage DNA leading to keratinocytes cell death. No serum biomarker was available for the oxidative DNA damage.

Objectives: To evaluate the 8-OHdG (8-Hydroxy guanosine) as reliable biomarker for the oxidative stress in psoriatic patients with severity.

Circulating monocytes mirror the imbalance in TF and TFPI expression in carotid atherosclerotic plaques with lipid-rich and calcified morphology.

Background: Thrombogenicity of atherosclerotic plaque largely depends on plaque morphology and their content of tissue factor (TF) and tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI). The relationship between morphological composition of plaque (lipid-rich or calcified) and expression of TF and TFPI in circulating blood monocytes and within the plaques is not characterized.

Objective: To investigate whether lipid-rich (echolucent) or calcified (echogenic) morphology of carotid atherosclerotic plaques is associated with differences in TF and TFPI expression in circulating blood monocytes and within carotid atherosclerotic plaques.
