This paper presents an automatic scoring method for p53 immunostained tissue images of oral cancer that consist of tissue image segmentation, splitting of clustered nuclei, feature extraction and classification. The tissue images are segmented using entropy thresholding technique in which the optimum threshold value to each color component is obtained by maximizing the global entropy of its gray-level co-occurrence matrix and clustered cells are separated by selectively applying marker-controlled watershed transform. Cell nuclei feature is extracted by maximal separation technique (MS) based on blue component of tissue image and subsequently, each cell is classified into one of four categories using multi-level thresholding.

In this report, we demonstrate a method for the isolation of pure homogeneous endothelial cell population from goat's eye without using multi-step procedure and sophisticated instrument facilities. Microvascular endothelial cell from goat's retina were isolated using enzymatic method and cultured in Iscove's Modified Dulbecco's Medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum. Five to 7 d after plating, a monolayer of endothelial cells was formed.

Angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels from pre-existing vasculature is of physiological and pathological importance. We have investigated the anti-angiogenic potential of silver nanoparticles, produced by Bacillus licheniformis. Bovine retinal endothelial cells (BRECs) were treated with the different concentrations of silver nanoparticles for 24 h in the presence and absence of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), where 500 nM (IC50) of silver nanoparticle concentration, was able to block the proliferation and migration of BRECs.
