Aim: The aim is to study the demographic characteristics of neonates with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) and to analyze the prognostic factors determining mortality.
Settings And Design: A retrospective cohort of CDH admitted at a tertiary level hospital during January 2005-December 2017.
Materials And Methods: All cases of CDH admitted to our tertiary care neonatal intensive care unit before undergoing surgery were included in the study.

The FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 8-hydroxy-5-nitroquinoline have been recorded in the regions 4000-400 and 4000-100 cm(-1), respectively. The spectra were interpreted in terms of fundamentals modes, combination and overtone bands. The normal coordinate analysis was carried out to confirm the precision of the assignments.

Aim: To evaluate the role of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) in the management of cholelithiasis in children.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective review of our experience with LC for cholelithiasis at our institution, between April 2006 and March 2009 was done. Data points reviewed included patient demographics, clinical history, haematological investigations, imaging studies, operative techniques, postoperative complications, postoperative recovery and final histopathological diagnosis.

Background: Biliary atresia (BA) and idiopathic neonatal hepatitis (NH) account for 50-70% of all cases with neonatal cholestasis. The treatment of the former is early surgical intervention, while the latter requires non-surgical supportive care. Failure to differentiate the two conditions may result in avoidable surgery in NH, which may significantly increase morbidity.

The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and FT-Raman spectra of 5-aminoquinoline (5AQ) have been recorded in the range 4000-400 and 3500-100 cm(-1), respectively. The complete vibrational assignment and analysis of the fundamental modes of the compounds were carried out using the observed FTIR and FT-Raman data. (1)H and (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts of the molecule were calculated by using the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method.

The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and FT-Raman spectra of 2-nitro-m-xylene (2NMX), 4-nitro-m-xylene (4NMX) and 5-nitro-m-xylene (5NMX) have been recorded in the range 4000-400 and 4000-100 cm(-1), respectively. The experimental vibrational frequency was compared with that obtained theoretically by ab initio HF and DFT-B3LYP gradient calculations employing the standard 6-31G(d,p) basis set for the optimised geometries of the compounds. The complete vibrational assignment, analysis and correlation of the fundamental modes of the compounds were carried out using the experimental FTIR and FT-Raman data, and ab initio and DFT quantum chemical studies.

Aim: To evaluate the role of laparoscopy in complicated appendicitis in children.
Materials And Methods: A total of 119 children were operated for appendicitis between October 2005 and May 2008 at SRMC, Chennai. Forty-one patients underwent open appendicectomy (OA), and 71 patients underwent laparoscopic appendicectomy (LA).
