Research Best Practices for Eye Stroke Vision Rehabilitation: A Qualitative Study.

Purpose: Central retinal artery occlusion, also known as an eye stroke, results in visual impairment and functional challenges. Our study objectives were to identify meaningful measures and factors that indicate or enable successful recovery after eye stroke and to determine optimal processes to support research, including exploring barriers and facilitators to successful research participation.

Methods: We used qualitative methods including the 5Ts Framework (target population identification, team composition, time considerations, tips to accommodate older adults, tools for inclusive enrollment of older adults) to provide a guide to the development of the semi-structured interviews and to help facilitate the research process such as the set-up of interviews.

Draft genomes of fluoroquinolone-resistant subspecies strains isolated from Cambodian poultry marketplaces.

High-quality draft genomes of six subspecies strains from Cambodian poultry marketplaces were sequenced. The strains were identified as Corvallis-, Monschaui-, and Kentucky-serovars. The fluoroquinolone resistance gene, was found in three strains in different Cambodian provinces.

Barriers to and enablers of modifying diet after metabolic bariatric surgery: A systematic review of published literature.

This is a qualitative systematic review in which we investigated barriers and enablers influencing dietary behavior change after metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS). Database searches retrieved publications reporting perceived factors influencing dietary behavior change post-MBS. Data (quotes, survey results, interpretative summaries) were extracted and analyzed using combined deductive and inductive thematic analyses.

Peripheral Nerve Blocks Are Associated With Decreased Early Medical Complications, Dislocations, and Opioid Consumption Following Total Hip Arthroplasty.

Background: Peripheral nerve blocks (PNBs) may be utilized for postoperative pain control following total hip arthroplasty (THA). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between PNBs and postoperative complication rates, healthcare utilization, and opioid consumption following elective THA.

Methods: Opioid-naive patients who received PNBs on the same day as undergoing THA for degenerative etiologies were identified from a large national database and matched 1:5 to a control cohort using propensity scoring.

Head pain (HP) and orofacial pain (OFP) are the most prevalent types of pain worldwide, encompassing cranial, oral and facial pain. The aim of this umbrella review was to answer the following questions: "What is the overall prevalence of HP/OFP and the different prevalences of HP/OFP conditions in adults and children?". Exploring policy coherence for land use transformations: The case of Scotland.

The multiple crises (climate, biodiversity, austerity) facing our socio-ecological systems require ambitious responses; with much of the responsibility for protecting public goods and developing sustainably lying with public policy. To tackle these wicked problems, there are increasing calls for policy coherence: to use the levers of government in a more holistic and systemic manner. Land use transformation is crucial to achieving these ambitions.

Flexible electronic-photonic 3D integration from ultrathin polymer chiplets.

The integration of flexible electronics and photonics has the potential to create revolutionary technologies, yet it has been challenging to marry electronic and photonic components on a single polymer device, especially through high-volume manufacturing. Here, we present a robust, chiplet-level heterogeneous integration of polymer-based circuits (CHIP), where several post-fabricated, ultrathin, polymer electronic, and optoelectronic chiplets are vertically bonded into one single chip at room temperature and then shaped into application-specific form factors with monolithic Input/Output (I/O). As a demonstration, we applied this process and developed a flexible 3D-integrated optrode with high-density arrays of microelectrodes for electrical recording and micro light-emitting diodes (μLEDs) for optogenetic stimulation while with unprecedented integration of additional temperature sensors for bio-safe operations and shielding designs for optoelectronic artifact prevention.

Evaluating a 12-week aerobic exercise intervention in adults with persisting post-concussive symptoms.

Background: Although guidelines support aerobic exercise in sub-acute mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), evidence for adults with persisting post-concussive symptoms (PPCS) after mTBI is lacking. In asthma, tissue factor (TF) levels are elevated in the lung. In our previous studies using mechanically compressed human bronchial epithelial (HBE) cells, which are a well-defined in vitro model of bronchoconstriction during asthma exacerbations, we detected TF within extracellular vesicles (EVs) released from compressed HBE cells. Here, to better characterize the potential role of this mechanism in asthma, we tested the extent to which the transcriptional regulation of epithelial cell-derived TF varied between donors with and without asthma.

Background: The sport of rifle places unique physical demands on its athletes relative to other collegiate sports, including maintaining lumbar-straining positions for extended time. Anecdotal reports of low back pain (LBP) are common among collegiate rifle athletes, but the prevalence of LBP in this population has not yet been established in the literature.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to survey collegiate rifle athletes to quantify the prevalence and impact of low back pain in this population and identify possible contributing factors including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives: To explore and understand the sources and experiences of joy in caregiving among formal caregivers in Canadian long-term care (LTC).

Design: A qualitative study with interpretative descriptive design.

Setting And Participants: The participants consisted of 20 formal caregivers from a large public LTC home in British Columbia, Canada, focusing on those with at least 6 months of direct caregiving experience.

Complete Lifestyle Medicine Intervention Program-Ontario: Implementation Protocol for a Rural Study.

Background: Sedentary lifestyles, poor nutritional choices, inadequate sleep, risky substance use, limited social connections, and high stress contribute to the growing prevalence of chronic diseases. Lifestyle medicine, emphasizing therapeutic lifestyle changes for prevention and treatment, has demonstrated effectiveness but remains underutilized in clinical settings. Strontium isotope (Sr/Sr) analysis with reference to strontium isotope landscapes (Sr isoscapes) allows reconstructing mobility and migration in archaeology, ecology, and forensics. However, despite the vast potential of research involving Sr/Sr analysis particularly in Africa, Sr isoscapes remain unavailable for the largest parts of the continent. Here, we measure the Sr/Sr ratios in 778 environmental samples from 24 African countries and combine this data with published data to model a bioavailable Sr isoscape for sub-Saharan Africa using random forest regression.
