Viability assessment of Chlamydia trachomatis in men who have sex with men using molecular and culture methods.

Objectives: Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is the most commonly reported bacterial sexually transmitted infection worldwide. Diagnosis relies on nucleic acid amplification techniques, such as PCR, which does not distinguish between viable pathogens and residual bacterial DNA, leading to potential overdiagnosis and overtreatment. PCR with confirmation of pathogen viability has not been widely explored in the sexually transmitted infection field.

Optimizing drought tolerance in cassava through genomic selection.

The complexity of selecting for drought tolerance in cassava, influenced by multiple factors, demands innovative approaches to plant selection. This study aimed to identify cassava clones with tolerance to water stress by employing truncated selection and selection based on genomic values for population improvement and genotype evaluation . The Best Linear Unbiased Predictions (BLUPs), Genomic Estimated Breeding Values (GEBVs), and Genomic Estimated Genotypic Values (GETGVs) were obtained based on different prediction models via genomic selection.

Feasibility and Acceptance of a Remotely Supervised Home-Based Group Mobility Exercise for Older Adults Using a Mobile Robotic Telepresence: A Pilot Study.

Background/objectives:  Mobile robotic telepresence could be used to remotely supervise physical activity programs. Our study aims to explore the feasibility, acceptance, and usability of a physical activity program offered synchronously via a mobile robotic telepresence platform.

Methods:  For this interventional study, five Cutii robots were made available in two residences for older adults in Quebec.

With antimicrobial resistance (AMR) reaching alarming levels, new anti-infectives with unprecedented mechanisms of action are urgently needed. The 2-C-methylerythritol-D-erythritol-4-phosphate (MEP) pathway represents an attractive source of drug targets due to its essential role in numerous pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mt), whilst being absent in human cells. Here, we solved the first crystal structure of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) IspD, the third enzyme in the MEP pathway and present the discovery of a fragment-based compound class identified through crystallographic screening of PaIspD.

Survival Without Quality of Life Deterioration in the GORTEC 2014-04 "OMET" Randomized Phase 2 Trial in Patients with Head and Neck Cancer with Oligometastases using Stereotactic Ablative Radiation Therapy (SABR) alone or Chemotherapy and SABR.

Purpose: Patients with oligometastasis may have prolonged survival with multisite stereotactic ablative radiation therapy (SABR). Evidence to support this paradigm is scarce in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC). The multicenter open-label randomized GORTEC 2014-04 (NCT03070366) phase 2 study assesses survival without definitive quality of life (QoL) deterioration of omitting upfront chemotherapy in oligometastatic patients with HNSCC using SABR alone, in the French Head and Neck Intergroup.

Zoonotic and other veterinary chlamydiae - an update, the role of the plasmid and plasmid-mediated transformation.

The obligate intracellular bacterial genus Chlamydia harbours species with zoonotic potential, particularly C. psittaci, causative agent of psittacosis, and C. abortus, which may lead to miscarriage in pregnant women.

A whole vocabulary emanates from it: metoposcopy, prosopology, physiognomony, phrenology, organology, morphopsychology, amphibology… which punctuated the beyond of the gaze.

Incidence and biomechanical risk factors for running-related injuries: A prospective cohort study.

Background: Injuries among runners is significant, yet the contributing risk factors remain elusive. The objective of this study was to examined the incidence and biomechanical elements associated with running-related injuries.

Methods: A 24-week prospective study was carried out.

Background: Adipose tissue vitamin A (VA), that is, mainly retinol (RET) and its esters, comes from preformed VA and proVA carotenoids present in our food. Adipose tissue VA acts as hormonal cue maintaining essential aspects of adipocyte biology, which includes fat mobilization and catabolism, energy balance, and glucose homeostasis, and it is thus of particular interest to study its determinants, including genetic ones.

Objectives: This study aimed to identify genetic variations associated with adipose tissue VA concentration.

Signal detection of drugs associated with obstructive and central sleep apnoea.

We aim to discover new safety signals of drug-induced sleep apnoea (SA), a global health problem affecting approximately 1 billion people worldwide. We first conducted a series of sequence symmetry analyses (SSA) in a cohort composed from all patients who received a first SA diagnosis or treatment between 2006 and 2018 in the Echantillon Généraliste des Bénéficaires (EGB), a random sample of the French healthcare database. We used two primary outcomes to estimate the sequence ratio (SR) for all drug classes available in France: a sensitive one (diagnosis or treatment of SA) and a specific one (Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy).

Investigations on the Potential Role of Free-Ranging Wildlife as a Reservoir of SARS-CoV-2 in Switzerland.

Amid the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, concerns surfaced regarding the spread of the virus to wildlife. Switzerland lacked data concerning the exposure of free-ranging animals to SARS-CoV-2 during this period. This study aimed to investigate the potential exposure of Swiss free-ranging wildlife to SARS-CoV-2.

Characterization of the interindividual variability of lutein and zeaxanthin concentrations in the adipose tissue of healthy male adults and identification of combinations of genetic variants associated with it.

Lutein (L) and zeaxanthin (Z) are involved in visual function and could prevent age-related macular degeneration and chronic diseases and improve cognitive performances. Adipose tissue is the main storage site for these xanthophylls (Xanth). The factors affecting their concentrations in this tissue remain poorly understood but in animal models, genetic variations in apolipoprotein E and β-carotene oxygenase 2 have been associated with adipose tissue L concentration.

Mask side-effects are related to gender in long-term CPAP: results from the InterfaceVent real-life study.

Background: Over the past three decades, our understanding of sleep apnea in women has advanced, revealing disparities in pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment compared to men. However, no real-life study to date has explored the relationship between mask-related side effects (MRSEs) and gender in the context of long-term CPAP.

Methods: The InterfaceVent-CPAP study is a prospective real-life cross-sectional study conducted in an apneic adult cohort undergoing at least 3 months of CPAP with unrestricted mask-access (34 different masks, no gender specific mask series).

Objective: Multiregional trials are designed under the assumption that treatment effect applies to the entire target population, yet several factors may introduce geographic heterogeneity in treatment effect. We explored whether such variations exist in trials assessing the efficacy of glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) in major cardiovascular events (MACE) in type 2 diabetes.

Age-based stereotype threat effects on dynamic balance in healthy older adults.

Introduction: Stereotype threat can lead older adults to perceive their experiences in a biased manner, giving rise to interfering thoughts and negative emotions that generate stress and anxiety. Negative beliefs about aging may serve as an additional factor that increases the need for attentional demand, potentially resulting in a performance level below their actual capabilities. In the present study, we asked whether negative aging stereotypes influence a dynamic balance task and explored the means to counteract them in healthy elderly participants.

Closed-Loop Insulin Therapy for People With Type 2 Diabetes Treated With an Insulin Pump: A 12-Week Multicenter, Open-Label Randomized, Controlled, Crossover Trial.

Objective: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) combined with continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) achieves better glycemic control than multi-injection therapy in people with type 2 diabetes. The effectiveness of closed-loop therapy needs to be further evaluated in this population.

Research Design And Methods: The study objective was to measure the impact of a hybrid closed-loop device (DBLG1) compared with CSII + CGM on glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes previously treated with CSII.
