People living with HIV (PLWH) beginning antiretroviral therapy (ART) retain a high burden of cytomegalovirus (CMV). CMV has been implicated in atherosclerosis in healthy adults, and a role in PLWH is plausible. Atherosclerosis has also been linked with γδ T cells and CMV seropositivity with altered γδ T cell profiles in other populations.

Introduction: Some people living with HIV (PLWH) receiving ART in Indonesia display poor clearance of replicating virus. This has been associated with HIV-associated sensory neuropathy. Here we assess whether treatment failure reflects the presence of drug resistance mutations.

Background: Acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) patients with symptomatic congestion often require in-hospital admission for intravenous (IV) diuretic, impacting both patient well-being and healthcare expenses. Subcutaneous (SC) furosemide has a potential to facilitate outpatient management of ADHF patients. Thus, this study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of SC furosemide utilization, offering a potential alternative to traditional IV administration.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the safety and immune response of mRNA versus inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in people living with HIV (PLHIV), finding that mRNA vaccines may elicit a stronger antibody response specifically targeting the virus.
  • Results showed that PLHIV who received mRNA vaccines had significantly higher levels of anti-SARS-CoV-2 RBD IgG compared to those who received inactivated vaccines, especially after two doses.
  • Increases in immune response markers IL-2 and IFN-γ were also observed in both groups, but further research is necessary to determine optimal vaccination strategies for PLHIV.

Combining pharmacotherapy with lifestyle intervention is recommended for obese class II patients who fail lifestyle therapy and for obese class I patients. Diethylpropion, an obesity medication, has been approved for use in Indonesia, which is an Asia-Pacific country. This retrospective study aimed to assess the short-term effects of diethylpropion on weight and fat loss in obese patients in Indonesia.

The impact of social media has been significant on various aspects of life, particularly mental health. Growing concerns about the adverse effects of social media use have prompted the exploration of experimental interventions, defined as digital detox interventions. However, it remains unclear whether digital detox interventions are effective for mental health outcomes.

In vivo studies on the hazards of deep-fried foods were commonly done by feeding used-or heated-cooking oil to rats. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of feeding deep-fried in palm, olive, and coconut oils and the used frying oil on the blood biochemical profile of laboratory rats. An in vivo randomized control group study with pre-test and post-test was conducted.

Obesity is a condition in which there is an accumulation of excess body fat leading to a weight far above the normal range that poses significant health risks. According to WHO, 8 billion people in the world were obese in 2022. Consequently, obesity has become a pandemic with negative impacts on both global health and economies.

In Indonesia, the development of the poultry industry is facing numerous challenges. Major constraints include high disease burdens, large fluctuations in farm input and output prices, and inadequate biosecurity. Timely and reliable information about animal production and health can help stakeholders at all levels of the value chain make appropriate management decisions to optimize their profitability and productivity while reducing risks to public health.

This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of an innovative reusable adsorbent through adsorption-degradation sequence for antibiotic removal from water. The magnetite/mesoporous carbon adsorbent was prepared using a two-step method of (i) in situ impregnation of magnetite precursor during resorcinol formaldehyde polymerization and (ii) pyrolysis at elevated temperature (800 °C). XRD spectra confirmed that magnetite (FeO) was the only iron oxide species present in the adsorbent, and thermogravimetric analysis revealed that its content was 10 wt%.

Atherosclerosis is one of the most dominant pathological processes responsible in cardiovascular diseases (CVD) caused by cholesterol accumulation accompanied by inflammation in the arteries which will subsequently lead to further complications, including myocardial infarction and stroke. Although the incidence of atherosclerosis is decreasing in some countries, it is still considered the leading cause of death worldwide. Atherosclerosis is a vascular pathological process that is chronically inflammatory and is characterized by the invasion of inflammatory cells and cytokines.

Due to their size and locomotion ability, cockroaches are favorable as hybrid robot platforms in search and rescue (SAR) missions. However, cockroaches most likely approach the corner area and stay for an uncertain time. This natural behavior will hinder the utilization of cyborg cockroaches in SAR missions under rubble, unstructured, and unknown areas.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and is linked to obesity. Subjects with MetS who have normo-weight potentially show higher mortality and morbidity.

Purpose: This study aims to reveal the critical essential metabolic parameters associated with endothelial dysfunction in MetS subjects with normo-weight compared to obese.

Interventions to change antimicrobial use (AMU) practices can help mitigate the risk of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) development. However, changing AMU practices can be challenging due to the complex nature of the factors influencing AMU-related behaviours. This study used a qualitative approach to explore the factors that influenced decision-making on AMU by farmers and other actors in the Indonesian poultry sector.

Article Synopsis
  • Atherosclerosis is a condition where arteries get clogged, and it can happen quietly until a serious event like a stroke occurs.
  • Researchers studied tiny molecules called microRNAs in the blood to see if they could help detect early signs of this clogging in the carotid arteries.
  • The study found that these microRNAs were very good at identifying the problem, showing they could be useful tools for doctors to diagnose this condition early on.

Animal production systems are developing into increasingly complex value chains involving a large diversity of actors with multiple and dynamic linkages, concurrently creating many opportunities for disease spread. Access to timely and good-quality animal health information is vital for designing effective disease management strategies. However, several factors may hamper information flows along those chains.

It is necessary to separate CO from biogas to improve its quality for the production of biomethane. Herein, an improvement in the separation of CO/CH adsorption was achieved by modifying the surface of CMS. The surface modification of CMS was performed by impregnation with metal oxide (FeO) and N-doping (DES-[ChCl:Gly]).

Cockroaches can traverse unknown obstacle-terrain, self-right on the ground and climb above the obstacle. However, they have limited motion, such as less activity in light/bright areas and lower temperatures. Therefore, the movement of the cyborg cockroaches needs to be optimized for the utilization of the cockroach as a cyborg insect.
