We present here a dual-channel nanoelectrode to detect both redox-active and non-redox-active analytes. The dual-channel nanoelectrode was developed from theta nanopipette. We developed one channel of the theta nanopipette to be a carbon nanoelectrode and the other channel to be a nano interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (nanoITIES) electrode, producing a nano-carbon-ITIES platform.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the degradation products of antidiabetic drugs glimepiride (GMD) and glyburide (GBD) and their potential genotoxicity after exposure to stressors like acid, base, and hydrogen peroxide.
  • Through advanced techniques like semi-preparative HPLC and LC-Orbitrap MS, researchers identified and isolated various impurities of both drugs, finding a total of five GMD and three GBD impurities, with specific purity levels determined.
  • The in silico predictions indicated low genotoxic potential for most impurities, but in vitro comet assays showed that some impurities, particularly from GBD, exhibited genotoxicity, with one impurity showing a higher level than the others.

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a sub-cellular organelle that is responsible for the correct folding of proteins, lipid biosynthesis, calcium storage, and various post-translational modifications. In the disturbance of ER functioning, unfolded or misfolded proteins accumulate inside the ER lumen and initiate downstream signaling called unfolded protein response (UPR). The UPR signaling pathway is involved in lipolysis, triacylglycerol synthesis, lipogenesis, the mevalonate pathway, and low-density lipoprotein receptor recycling.

The dynamics of human mobility have been known to play a critical role in the spread of infectious diseases like COVID-19. In this paper, we present a simple compact way to model the transmission of infectious disease through transportation networks using widely available aggregate mobility data in the form of a zone-level origin-destination (OD) travel flow matrix. A key feature of our model is that it not only captures the propagation of infection via direct connections between zones (first-order effects) as in most existing studies but also transmission effects that are due to subsequent interactions in the remainder of the system (higher-order effects).

Background: The risk of Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) is greatly influenced by variants within the genes involved in folate-homocysteine metabolism. Polymorphism in MTHFR (C677T and G1793A) and MS/MTR (A2756G) genes increases the risk of developing CHD risk, but results are controversial. Therefore, we conducted a case-control association pilot study followed by an up-dated meta-analysis with trial sequential analysis (TSA) to obtain more precise estimate of the associations of these two gene variants with the CHD risk.

Article Synopsis
  • The CRAFTI technique for measuring collision cross sections (CCS) faces challenges due to the need for accurate pressure measurements in the mass spectrometer and the requirement that ions must be similar in mass to the neutral particles.
  • The newly developed "multi-CRAFTI" method allows researchers to excite multiple ions simultaneously, enabling relative measurements of CCS without needing to know the exact pressure and facilitating absolute CCS measurements using internal standards.
  • Experimental results show that multi-CRAFTI produces CCS values in agreement with traditional methods, although it tends to yield smaller CCS due to higher collision energies; the study indicates that computational models may overestimate interactions among the ions, particularly at higher masses.
