Measuring plasma albumin is a common and important laboratory test. We compared the results obtained with the bromocresol green (BCG) colorimetric, immunoturbidimetric (IT), and capillary electrophoresis (CE) methods and evaluated the clinical reliability of the colorimetric test. Samples from 320 patients including 227 patients with hypoalbuminemia (albumin levels <35 g/L) were analyzed.

In this study, we validated serum amyloid A (SAA) and C-reactive protein (CRP) reagents for use with serum samples from gibbons (Hylobatidae, = 50), spanning five species across four gibbon genera: eastern hoolock (), Javan (), pileated (), siamang (), and white-cheeked (). Preliminary reference intervals ( = 50) were calculated for SAA (1.

Computed tomography and blood work revealed coelomic effusion with free coelomic mineral-attenuating material and elevations in the bile acids and aspartate aminotransferase activity, respectively. Coelomic effusion was consistent with macrophagic inflammation with abundant intracellular lipids.

Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) with these agents are vague and poorly understood. Because DDIs can have an effect on clinical outcomes, we aimed to identify drugs that interact with erlotinib or gefitinib and describe their clinical manifestations.

Flexible thermal radiation films with adjustable broad-band infrared radiation could maintain various heat-generating electronic devices working stably in corresponding operating temperatures, making them good candidates for radiative cooling (RC) material. However, the controllable radiation peaks of the metamaterial were narrow, and manipulation was a time-consuming and complex process. Herein, we design a simple TiN/Si bilayer film with controllable broad-band radiation peaks at a thermal radiation wavelength of 3.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetic properties of a single dose of ceftiofur crystalline-free acid (CCFA) in whooping cranes (). Ceftiofur crystalline-free acid is a long-acting, injectable, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic drug. A preliminary study evaluated CCFA administered intramuscularly in the pectoral or thigh muscle at 20 or 30 mg/kg IM to a single adult whooping crane for each dose.

Primary outcomes of this study were to investigate the effect of AOX on spontaneous clinical pregnancy, live birth and miscarriage rates in male infertile patients. Secondary outcomes were conventional semen parameters, sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) and seminal OS.

Background: The ABCG2, SLC22A12, and ALPK1 genes have been strongly associated with dysfunction of urate metabolism in patients with gout, but it is unknown how these transporters are expressed in patients with acute or chronic gout. Our objectives were to: (a) analyze the gene expression of urate transporters and of inflammation genes in peripheral blood from gout patients and controls; (b) determine whether the metabolic profile of gout patients can influence the gene expression profile and the expression of urate transporters, ABCG2 and SLC22A12, and inflammation molecules, ALPK1 and IL-1β, in peripheral blood leukocytes from gout patients; (c) compare them with their metabolic profile and the gene expression of people without gout and without hyperuricemia.
Methods: A total of 36 chronic and acute patients and 52 controls were recruited, and ABCG2, SLC22A12, IL-1β, and ALPK1 gene expression was evaluated by quantitative real-time PCR.
Case Description: A male Major Mitchell's cockatoo (Lophochroa leadbeateri) of unknown age presented with an ulcerated mass on the ventral tail caudodorsal to the cloaca.
Clinical Findings: An impression smear of the mass showed spindle cell atypia. Multiple biopsies were submitted for histopathology with inconclusive results.
Background: Left ventricle (LV) segmentation using a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) dataset is critical for evaluating global and regional cardiac functions and diagnosing cardiovascular diseases. LV clinical metrics such as LV volume, LV mass and ejection fraction (EF) are frequently extracted based on the LV segmentation from short-axis MRI images. Manual segmentation to assess such functions is tedious and time-consuming for medical experts to diagnose cardiac pathologies.

A 27-year-old female African grey parrot () presented as a referral for surgical removal of an enlarged uropygial gland that was first observed by the owner 6 months prior. Antibiotic therapy was attempted by the referring veterinarian with limited treatment response. No abnormalities were noted in the results of a complete blood count and plasma biochemistry panel.

This article describes a step-by-step procedure to perform PVSA accurately, report data from patients who underwent post vasectomy semen analysis between 2015 and 2021 experience, along with results from an international online survey on clinical practice.
Materials And Methods: We present a detailed step-by-step protocol for performing and interpretating PVSA testing, along with recommendations for proficiency testing, competency assessment for performing PVSA, and clinical and laboratory scenarios.
Objective: : To explore the medical literature on techniques of tissue and sperm handling after surgical retrieval for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
Methods: : A search was performed in PubMed and Google Scholar databases, according to a modified Preferred Reporting Items for Systemic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline, considering the studies investigating tissue handling and sperm selection techniques for ICSI.
Results: : Overall, 42 articles were included in this study, investigating sample handling, methods for sperm selection, and the use of chemical compounds to improve sperm motility and fertilisation rates.

Objective: To describe the clinical presentation of a dog with hemolytic anemia secondary to zinc toxicosis after 1-week use of "max strength" 40% diaper rash cream.
Case Summary: A 2-year-old female neutered Maltese presented for vomiting, lethargy, pigmenturia, and pale mucous membranes. "Max Strength" zinc oxide cream had been applied to the patient daily for a week prior to presentation.
Telomere length is regarded as a potential biomarker of biological ageing and is associated with various age-related diseases, such as ischemic heart disease (IHD), myocardial infarction, peripheral vascular disease, and cancer. As there is a paucity of study that deals with this influence, this study aimed to assess how the cardiovascular risk factors influence the risk of IHD by performing mediation analysis. A total of 407 males were included in the study.

Granular leukocytes when activated are capable of generating high levels of reactive oxygen species in semen resulting in oxidative stress. Oxidative stress has been correlated with poor sperm quality, increased level of sperm DNA fragmentation and low fertility potential.
