Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a leading cause of chronic liver disease with a significant risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Recent clinical evidence indicates the potential benefits of statins in cancer chemoprevention and therapeutics. However, it is still unclear if these drugs can lower the specific risk of HCC among patients with MASLD.

Drought is a serious threat to crop productivity and global food security. About 40 % of the worldwide land is considered arid dryland soil because of a lack of rainfall, high solar radiation, and temperature fluctuations. Though rhizobacteria, particularly mycorrhizal fungi (MF), assist plants in coping with drought stress, an intensive quantitative assessment of their effects on plant growth and nutrient availability is still limited.

The substantial rise in metabolic illnesses that has occurred in both developed and developing countries over the last three decades has been linked to an increase in sugar-added foods and sweetened beverage intake. The significance of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases related to modern nutrition is an emerging issue. Spices and herbs can potentially be potent AGE production inhibitors due to their high polyphenol content.

  • The study focuses on disorders of sex development (DSD), which is characterized by ambiguous genitalia in newborns, particularly at Faiha Specialized Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolism Center in Basrah, Iraq.
  • A retrospective analysis of 150 DSD patients from 2009 to 2023 revealed that most patients were over 15 years old, with various types of DSD represented: 37.3% sex chromosomal DSD, 34.7% 46, XY DSD, and 28% 46, XX DSD.
  • The findings highlight a trend of late diagnosis, emphasizing the need for increased awareness among healthcare professionals and families for earlier identification of DSD

The gut microbiota residing in the distal ileum and colon is the most complex, diverse, and densest microbial ecosystem in the human body. Despite its known role in human health and disease, gut microbiome diversity and function are rarely explored in vulnerable populations such as refugees. The current study aimed to explore gut microbiota diversity and sources of variation among adolescent Afghan refugees residing in Peshawar, Pakistan.

An asymmetric synthesis is a favorable approach for obtaining enantiomerically pure substances, but racemic resolution remains an efficient strategy. This study aims to elucidate the chiral resolution of aromatic amino acids and their elution order using glycopeptides as chiral selectors through molecular docking analysis. Chiral separation experiments were conducted using Vancomycin as a chiral additive in the mobile phase (CMPA) at various concentrations, coupled with an achiral amino column as the stationary phase.

This study presents an analysis and evaluation of gait asymmetry (GA) based on the temporal gait parameters identified using a portable gait event detection system, placed on the lateral side of the shank of both lower extremities of the participants. Assessment of GA was carried out with seven control subjects (CS), one transfemoral amputee (TFA) and one transtibial amputee (TTA) while walking at different speeds on overground (OG) and treadmill (TM). Gait cycle duration (GCD), stance phase duration (SPD), swing phase duration (SwPD), and the sub-phases of the gait cycle (GC) such as Loading-Response (LR), Foot-Flat (FF), and Push-Off (PO), Swing-1 (SW-1) and Swing-2 (SW-2) were evaluated.

A new composite sponge assisted by magnetic field-mediated guidance was developed for effective hemostasis. It was based on polydopamine capillary-channel agarose (PDA-CAGA) sponge as matrix; meanwhile, the combination of deep eutectic solvent (DES, choline chloride:glycerol = 1:1, M/M)-dispersed FeO nanoparticles after fabrication by tannic acid (DES-FeO@TA) was applied as hemostatic magnetic fluid. This sponge had oriented and aligned capillary channels realized by a 3D printed pattern, which endowed them with obvious shape memory and liquid absorption performance.
