Introduction: Bone cementation has various effects on hemodynamics including potentially fatal bone cement implantation syndrome (BCIS). Most of the studies on BCIS are from developed countries. We have studied the effect of bone cement on hemodynamics in hip arthroplasty in the eastern Indian population and compared it with the available literature.

Background and objective The management and treatment of nociception remain one of the major challenges in anesthesiology, and hemodynamic variations may occur due to inadequate analgesia, which at times can be injurious. Pupillometry is a new noninvasive tool to assess nociception during anesthesia. The amount of pupillary reflex dilation (PRD) is directly proportional to the intensity of nociceptive stimuli and inversely proportional to the opioid dosage.

Introduction: Patients with acute brain injury presents are unique subset of neurocritical care patients with its long-term functional prognosis difficult to determine. They often have long intensive care unit (ICU) stay and presents as challenge to decide when to transfer out of ICU. This prospective study aims to assess the benefits of early tracheostomy in terms of ICU-length of stay (ICU-LOS), number of days on ventilator (ventilator days), incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), and mortality rates.

Background and objective Lidocaine pretreatment is considered the gold standard for attenuating pain on injection of propofol. Valsalva maneuver (VM) causes baroreceptor reflex arc-induced antinociception by increasing the intrathoracic pressure. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of VM in alleviating the pain on injection of propofol in this randomized comparative study.

Background: Ketamine and dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant to caudal block are used in the pediatric population.

Aims: We aimed to compare the analgesic and safety profile of dexmedetomidine with ketamine for single-shot caudal block.

Settings And Design: This was a randomized controlled study conducted in a tertiary care university hospital.

Recently, the PHF20 has been reported as tumor inducer protein by suppressing the activity of tumor suppressor protein p53. Conventional drugs (albendazole, doxazosin, and propranolol) are used for treatment of cancer causing side effect. The secondary metabolite curcumin is employed in various diseases treatment including cancer.

Background And Aims: The association of superficial thrombophlebitis (ST) with deep-venous thrombosis varies between 6% and 44%. Thus, prevention of ST is important. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of topical quick penetrating solution (QPS) of heparin 1000 IU/mL versus diclofenac QPS for prevention of postinfusion ST.

Background And Aims: Several locoregional techniques have been described for providing postoperative analgesia after breast surgery. The optimal technique should be easy to perform, reproducible and provide good analgesia. This randomised control study was designed to evaluate the postoperative analgesic effect of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane (US-guided ESP) block for modified radical mastectomy (MRM) surgery.

Context: Ventilator associated pneumonia is one the most common nosocomial infection encountered in the ICU patients. Despite of the implementation of the VAP prevention bundle, the incidence remains high. This can be attributed to the peritubal leak and the aspiration of the oropharyngeal secretions.

Studies were carried out to examine and compare the effects of alloxan-diabetes on reactive oxygen species (ROS) related parameters in the heart from male and female rats. Effects of insulin treatment were also evaluated. The diabetic state severely compromised the ROS defense mechanism in the cardiac tissue and the effects were more pronounced in the female than in the male rats.
