The diagnosis and management of common chronic respiratory diseases depend on various parameters obtained from pulmonary function tests (PFTs), such as spirometry, plethysmography, and carbon monoxide diffusion capacity (DLCO). These tests are interpreted following guidelines established by reputable scientific societies like the European Respiratory Society and the American Thoracic Society (ERS/ATS). This review aimed to offer a comprehensive framework for interpreting PFTs, incorporating the latest ERS/ATS update (i.

Article Synopsis
  • Psoriasis is a common autoimmune skin disease, but its exact cause is still unclear; this study explores whether specific biomarkers can indicate the presence and severity of the condition.
  • The research focuses on the relationship between serum levels of VEGF, MMP-9, and TIMP-2 in 115 psoriatic patients compared to 51 controls, using ELISA methods for measurement.
  • Findings show that while VEGF has low effectiveness in distinguishing between psoriasis variants, the combination of TIMP-2 and inflammation Z-score significantly improves discriminative power, highlighting the role of inflammation and tissue damage in the disease's progression.

Background: Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is a rare malignant tumor primarily affecting young individuals, with cranial localization being particularly uncommon. While intracranial metastatic ES is infrequent, only four cases of intracranial metastatic ES are reported in the literature; it presents unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Case Description: We present a distinctive case of ES to delineate its clinical, radiological, and histopathological characteristics.

Objectives: Vascular complications after venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) remains poorly studied, although they may highly impact patient management after ECMO removal. Our aim was to assess their frequency, predictors, and management.

Design: Retrospective, observational cohort study.

Background: Clinical high risk (CHR) youth are known to exhibit cognitive deficits at similar levels to their more severally ill counter parts. Cognitive training (CT) programs offer a promising method for early intervention and the prevention of further cognitive decline in this vulnerable population. However, there are few structured CT intervention programs addressing the needs of CHR youth in LMICs of the Middle East.

Ultra-dense (>4,000 pixels per inch) and highly stable full-color III-nitride nanoscale pixels are crucial for near-eye display technologies like virtual and augmented-reality glasses. In this context, InGaN-based long wavelength green microscale light-emitting diodes face major bottlenecks, such as low efficiency and inadequate wavelength stability. These challenges are associated with the presence of both nonradiative surface defects and the strain induced quantum-confined Stark effect.

Article Synopsis
  • Obligate endosymbiont bacteria in insects provide essential nutrients and help protect against diseases.
  • This study focused on identifying Wolbachia bacteria in the harmful apricot seed wasp, Eurytoma samsonowi, in Gafsa, Tunisia.
  • Results revealed Wolbachia was present in the wasp for the first time, with a notable difference in infection rates between males (5%) and females (59%), all belonging to supergroup B of Wolbachia.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of land-based versus aquatic-based exercises for improving knee osteoarthritis symptoms over an 8-week period.
  • Results showed that patients in the aquatic exercise group experienced significantly greater reductions in pain and stiffness compared to those in the land-based group.
  • Overall, both types of exercise improved quality of life, but the aquatic group demonstrated more substantial benefits in physical and mental health outcomes.

Aberrant estrogen receptor (ERα) signaling mediates detrimental effects of tamoxifen including drug resistance and endometrial hyperplasia. ERα36, an alternative isoform of ERα, contributes to these effects. We have demonstrated that CK2 modulates ERα expression and function in breast cancer (BCa).

Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor used for hypertension and heart failure management. To date, scarce literature is available on pharmacogenetic associations affecting ramipril. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of 120 genetic variants in 34 pharmacogenes (i.

This study investigates the pharmacokinetic properties and bioequivalence of 2 formulations of clopidogrel tablets administered to a cohort of healthy Moroccan male volunteers. The primary objective was to assess the rate and extent of drug absorption from the test formulation in comparison to a reference formulation, focusing on critical parameters including maximum plasma concentration (C), area under the concentration-time curve from 0 to the last measurable time (AUC), and area under the concentration-time curve extrapolated to infinity (AUC). The results revealed that the geometric mean ratios of C, AUC, and AUC for the test formulation relative to the reference formulation were 105.

Introduction: Online education has become a crucial component of teachers' professional development, and universities incorporate innovative pedagogical approaches to enhance teachers' training. These approaches have proven invaluable, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study investigates the impact of online versus face-to-face learning environments on sleep quality, physical activity, and cognitive functioning among physical education students.

Introduction: Nipocalimab is a high-affinity, fully human, aglycosylated, effectorless, immunoglobulin G (IgG) 1 monoclonal antibody that targets the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn), decreases systemic IgG including autoantibodies, and is under development in several IgG autoantibody- and alloantibody-mediated diseases, including generalized myasthenia gravis, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, maternal-fetal medicine, and multiple other therapeutic areas. An initial phase 1 study with single and multiple ascending doses of nipocalimab infused intravenously (IV) over 2 h demonstrated dose-dependent serum pharmacokinetics and IgG reductions, with an adverse event (AE) profile comparable to placebo.

Methods: The current investigation evaluates the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of single doses of nipocalimab across various IV infusion rates in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, sequential-dose study.

Article Synopsis
  • Chlorpyrifos (CPF) poisoning presents a significant public health issue, and this study explores the potential protective effect of grape seed extract (GSE) against liver damage caused by CPF.
  • Treatment with CPF caused major disruptions in liver metabolism, mitochondrial functions, and induced oxidative stress and cholinergic excitotoxicity in rats.
  • GSE administration effectively mitigated the harmful effects of CPF by regulating certain gene expressions related to liver detoxification, suggesting that GSE could be a viable protective strategy against CPF-induced liver toxicity.

This report describes the unique case of a 37-year-old pregnant patient with a history of total thyroidectomy who presented worsening dyspnea due to a recurrent benign goiter. The goiter grew through the tracheal wall and narrowed the tracheal lumen. After unsuccessful treatment with bronchodilators and corticosteroids, the patient underwent an emergency tracheostomy and cesarean section.

Background: Cervical traction is effective on pain and function in patients with cervical radiculopathy but its effectiveness on balance disorders has not yet been studied.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of mechanical intermittent cervical traction (MICT) on stabilometric parameters in patients with cervical radiculopathy.

Methods: This randomized crossover study assigned 20 patients with cervical radiculopathy to one of the two groups: Group effective traction (ET)/sham traction (ST) (n= 10) treated firstly with ET (traction force of 12 Kg) then with ST (traction force of 2 Kg) with one-week interval and group ST/ET (n= 10) treated invertedly with a ST then ET.
