Prcis: Elevated corneal hysteresis (CH) and resistance factor (CRF) in obese and overweight children imply weight's effect on corneal biomechanics. Increased Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure (IOPg) in obese children indicates glaucoma risk, emphasizing screening for IOP and retinal changes.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of obesity on corneal biomechanics, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and central macular thickness (CMT) in children.

Comparison of Arterial Stiffness and Strain Measured with Speckle Tracking Carotid Strain Ultrasonography after Radiation and Surgical Treatment for Head and Neck Cancer-A Clinical Trial.

This study assessed arterial stiffness in head and neck cancer patients using speckle tracking carotid strain ultrasonography (STCS-US). It investigated the impacts of neck irradiation and neck dissection on the arterial stiffness of these patients by comparing their stiffness parameters with those of healthy controls. A total of 101 participants (67 patients and 34 healthy controls) were enrolled in this study.

Prognostic role of metabolic 18F-FDG PET/CT parameters and hematological prognostic indicators in patients with colorectal cancer.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of preoperative 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) parameters, including maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG), hematologic prognostic indicators in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) in terms of predicting prognosis.

Methods: One hundred and one patients who had undergone 18F-FDG PET/CT for initial staging were evaluated retrospectively. Patient data including pathologic stage at presentation, histology, tumor location, and overall survival (OS) were analyzed.

The role of hepatic and renal functions in the development of retinopathy of prematurity: Is proteinuria a new risk factor?

Purpose: To investigate the association of hepatic and renal parameters with the development of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in premature infants with a gestational age ≤ 32 weeks.

Methods: Medical records of 240 preterm infants were reviewed retrospectively, 85 of them were grouped as type 1, type 2 ROP, and control group. The 4th week hepatic and renal function test results of the groups, on the day of their first ROP examinations, were compared for the risk of development of ROP and the development of type 1 ROP.

Prevalence and Genetic Diversity of Norovirus in Acute Gastroenteritis Cases in the Southwest Province of Turkey.

Aims: Noroviruses may cause both epidemic and sporadic acute gastroenteritis globally. Thus, this study evaluated the prevalence of norovirus in stool samples of hospitalized patients with acute gastroenteritis in Aydin, Turkey using enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) and real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) and genotyped positive samples to detect which genotypes have currently circulated.

Methods: This retrospective descriptive study collected 92 stool samples from patients with acute gastroenteritis symptoms from Aydın Adnan Menderes University Hospital from September 2017 to May 2019.

The Effect of Spinal and General Anesthesia on Metastatic Lymph Node Flow in Bladder Cancer Surgery: A Pilot Study.

Introduction: The sympathetic regulation of contractile function of lymphatic vessels has received much attention in terms of metastasis mechanism nowadays in animal studies. The aim of the study to evaluate the effect of spinal or general anesthesia on flow in malignant lymph nodes in patients undergoing bladder tumor surgery with doppler ultrasound.

Methods: This prospective, observational, pilot study was performed on the patients (ASA II and III, aged 45-85) who scheduled for elective bladder tumor surgery under spinal or general anesthesia from July 2018 to August 2019.

Can Complete Blood Count Parameters Predict Retinopathy of Prematurity?

Objectives: To predict the risk of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) development according to routine complete blood count (CBC) parameters.

Materials And Methods: The medical records and CBC results of 150 premature neonates were retrospectively evaluated. As ROP develops 1 month after birth, first month CBC profiles of neonates without ROP (non-ROP), with ROP (ROP group), and those with Type 1, Type 2, and Stage 1+2 ROP were compared.

The relation between serum vitamin D levels, viral infections and severity of attacks in children with recurrent wheezing.

Introduction And Objectives: Vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased susceptibility to infections and wheezing. We aimed to evaluate the relation between vitamin D levels, viral infections and severity of attacks in children with recurrent wheezing.

Materials And Methods: A total of 52 patients who applied with wheezing, at the ages of 12-60 months with a history of three or more wheezing attacks in the last year and 54 healthy children were included.

The evaluation of cardiac functions according to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease groups.

We aimed to compare right and left ventricular functions by echocardiography (ECHO) according to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) groups, and to determine their associations with functional parameters. Data of patients with COPD who underwent ECHO between 2015 and 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. The results of pulmonary function tests, 6-minute-walking test (6MWT), Modified Medical Research Council (mMRC), COPD assessment test (CAT), and BODE scores were recorded together with ECHO results showing right and left ventricular functions.

Survival after cardiopulmonary arrest in a tertiary care hospital in Turkey.

Background: Despite significant improvements in the field of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) over the past 40 years, disparate survival rates are reported after in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA). Few studies have addressed the effect of comorbid conditions on survival after IHCA.

Objective: Examine IHCAs over a two-year period, determine survival rates, and assess the effects of comorbid diseases on survival after IHCA.

The Levels of Serum Biomarkers in Stable Asthma Patients with Comorbidities.

The effects of comorbidities on systemic inflammation markers in stable asthmatics and the consequences of such effects have not been well evaluated. We aimed to evaluate the effect of comorbidities on clinical manifestations and systemic inflammation in asthmatic patients under control. The study group consisted of asthmatic patients who applied to our pulmonology outpatient clinic and volunteered to participate.

Objectives: The success rate of methotrexate (MTX) therapy varies among tubal ectopic pregnancies. Common methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) polymorphisms (C677T&A1298C) have been suggested to alter MTX effect. This study aimed to assess and compare MTX treatment failure rates with respect to MTHFR polymorphisms in trophoblasts of ectopic tubal pregnancies.

Objectives: To investigate the correlation between tumor stage, Ki-67, Bcl-2, hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), cyclin D1 and metabolic tumor volume (MTV), total lesion glycolysis (TLG), maximum standardized uptake value (SUV) measured by F fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) in patients diagnosed with laryngeal cancer.

Patients And Methods: In this study, included 25 consecutive laryngeal cancer patients (2 women, 23 men) diagnosed and treated in the Otorhinolaryngology Department of our tertiary care center. All cases underwent F FDG PET/CT and SUV, mean standardized uptake value, MTV, and TLG values were calculated.

Mothers' emotional states and attitudes regarding their children with asthma.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of asthma with the psychological profile (depression and anxiety) of children with asthma and their mothers as well as the attitudes of these mothers toward their children and their family relationships.

Methods: Sixty-four children with asthma, 60 healthy children and their mothers were included in the study. The Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and Childhood Anxiety Sensitivity Index (CASI) were applied to the children.

Second trimester maternal serum-amniotic fluid nitric oxide and vascular endothelial growth factor levels in relation to uterine artery Doppler indices in pregnancies with normal outcome.

The aim of the present study was to explore the possible relations of maternal serum and amniotic fluid nitric oxide (NO) and of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) concentrations with uterine artery Doppler indices (UtADs) in a healthy second trimester obstetric population. In this regard, the levels of NO and VEGF-A were measured in maternal sera and the amniotic fluid samples were in 36 subjects who were in their early second trimester of pregnancy. Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic, inflammatory bowel diseases characterized by uncontrolled inflammatory condition of the colon and rectal mucosa marked by recurrent periods of remission and exacerbation. [Genotypes of rhinoviruses in children and adults patients with acute respiratory tract infections].

Rhinovirus (RV) is one of the most frequent causative agent of acute respiratory tract infections in the world. The virus may cause a mild cold, as well as more serious clinical symptoms in patients with immune system deficiency or comorbidities. Rhinoviruses have been identified by molecular methods under three types: RV-A, RV-B and RV-C.

Impact of Generalized Joint Laxity on Plantar Loading Patterns in Young Females.

Background: Generalized joint laxity is often associated with gait deviations. The aim of this study was to investigate the static and dynamic loading pattern of the foot with increasing joint mobility and to discuss the potential impact of this condition on the plantar loading patterns.

Methods: Seventy female participants between ages of 18 and 30 were included in this cross-sectional survey.

Craniofacial Characteristics of Thalassemia Major Patients.

Objective: Thalassemias major are the most common autosomal recessive disorders; they are characterized by anomalies in the synthesis of the beta chains of hemoglobin and are often associated with varying degrees of craniofacial anomalies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the craniofacial dimensions of β-thalassemia patients and to identify differences by comparing them to those of a control group.

Materials And Methods: The study comprised 43 thalassemia major patients and 26 age- and sex- matched healthy control subjects.

Postural balance control in women with generalized joint laxity.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the potential relationship between joint laxity and postural balance by using tetra-ataxiometric posturography (Tetrax®).

Patients And Methods: A total of 69 healthy volunteers were included in the study and classified into three groups based on their hypermobility severity determined with Beighton-Horan hypermobility index scores. Of those, 29 participants were non-hypermobile, 13 participants were mildly hypermobile and remaining 27 patients had severe hypermobility.

Inhibitory Effect of Pycnogenol on Airway Inflammation in Ovalbumin-Induced Allergic Rhinitis.
