Background: Determination of control level in recurrent angioedema (RAE) is necessary to guide management. Here, we validated a Turkish version of the angioedema control test (AECT) for 4-week (AECT-4wk) and for 3-month (AECT-3mth) and assessed their utility in monitoring RAE.

Method: The recommended structured translation process for patient-reported outcome measures was completed.

Introduction: In 2020, World Allergy Organization (WAO) updated their diagnostic criteria for anaphylaxis, which differed as a result from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases/Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (NIAID/FAAN) criteria which were still used in the 2021 update of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) anaphylaxis guideline. Our aim was to evaluate and to compare both diagnostic criteria and attempt to identify factors affecting severity of anaphylaxis.

Methods: The medical records of the patients who were evaluated with suspected anaphylaxis at 3 medical centers in Türkiye between 2014 and 2021, and underwent a detailed diagnostic work-up, were analyzed retrospectively.

There are some adverse effects with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines, but the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on attacks in hereditary angioedema (HAE) is not well defined. We aimed to investigate the influence of COVID-19 vaccination on the course of HAE. The COVID-19 vaccination status was determined in 140 adult patients with HAE.

Due to current advances and growing experience in the management of coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the outcome of COVID-19 patients with severe/critical illness would be expected to be better in the second wave compared with the first wave. As our hospitalization criteria changed in the second wave, we aimed to investigate whether a favorable outcome occurred in hospitalized COVID-19 patients with only severe/critical illness. Among 642 laboratory-confirmed hospitalized COVID-19 patients in the first wave and 1121 in the second wave, those who met World Health Organization (WHO) definitions for severe or critical illness on admission or during follow-up were surveyed.

Objective Activated macrophages (M1-type macrophages) in adipose tissue secrete many proinflammatory cytokines that induce insulin resistance (IR). Oncostatin M (OSM), a member of the interleukin-6 (IL-6) family of Gp130 cytokines, plays an important role in a variety of biological functions, including the regulation of inflammatory responses. Proinflammatory cytokines released in patients with IR trigger a chronic, low-grade inflammatory reaction in blood vessel walls.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) involves dysfunction in both the heart and kidneys, with this study focusing on predicting type 1 CRS using the kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) for early diagnosis of acute kidney injury (AKI).
  • Researchers studied 146 patients with acute heart failure, measuring urinary KIM-1 levels before and after diuretic treatment, analyzing the data for correlations using the SPSS software.
  • The findings revealed no significant relationship between KIM-1 levels and the development of CRS type 1, suggesting that KIM-1 may not be a useful prognostic indicator in this context as renal damage is just one aspect of CRS type 1's complex interactions.

Background: Endotrophin, a type VI collagen cleavage product, has fibrosis, and insulin resistance effects. Type VI collagen also plays a role in cardiac fibrosis. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of endotrophin in the pathogenesis of cardiac fibrosis by determining its levels in patients with heart failure with reduced and mid-range ejection fraction (EF).

Objectives: Adropin is a novel marker of metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. The aim of this study was to explore the association of serum adropin levels with hepatosteatosis among adult patients.

Materials And Methods: Serum biochemical parameters including liver and renal function tests, insulin levels, and serum adropin levels were compared between adult patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and healthy control cases.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine how often the recommendations of the Turkish Hypertension Consensus Report are followed, and to draw attention to the report.

Methods: The demographic information of 1000 patients diagnosed with hypertension and the details of the antihypertensive medications prescribed at the outpatient service of a tertiary care hospital were recorded, and the data were compared with the recommendations of the report.

Results: The mean age of the patients was 62±11 years.

Purpose: Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic agent with potential nephrotoxicity. Delayed increase in serum creatinine after cisplatin administration shows that serum creatinine may not be a sufficient marker for early detection of nephrotoxicity. Urinary insulin-like growth factor binding protein-7 (IGFBP7) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 (TIMP-2) which are cell-cycle arrest biomarkers have been proposed recently for early detection of acute kidney injury (AKI).
