Objectives: People living with HIV (PLWH) are a risk group for severe symptoms and higher mortality during COVID-19. We analyzed the dynamic rise of SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence induced by coinfections and vaccinations in PLWH in the first three years of the pandemic in Germany and compared it with corresponding data available for the general population.
Methods: Each month on average 93 blood samples from the German HIV-1 Seroconverter Cohort, a prospective longitudinal multicenter study that includes PLWH whose date of seroconversion is well defined, were received.
Conventional neutralizing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) systems for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mimic the protein-protein interaction between angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and the receptor-binding domain (RBD). However, an easy and rapidly adaptative ELISA-based system for testing neutralizing antibodies against upcoming SARS-CoV-2 variants is urgently needed. In this study, we closed this gap by developing a tANCHOR-cell-based RBD neutralization assay that avoids time-consuming protein expression and purification followed by coating on ELISA plates.

Heavy metals are known to co-select for antibiotic resistance, but the impact of the presence of these metals on conjugation itself is not clear. Here, we systematically investigate the impact that five heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, copper, manganese, and zinc) have on the transfer of an IncF conjugative plasmid in .

It requires use of cryoprotective agents (CPAs) to protect the oocytes against freezing injury. The intracellular introduction of CPAs, however, may cause irreversible osmotic damage.

Background: Rational design of cryopreservation strategies for oocytes and ovarian cortex tissue requires insights in the rate at which cryoprotective agents (CPA) permeate and concomitant water transport takes place. The aim of the current study was to investigate possible differences in permeation kinetics of different CPAs (i.e.

A complete structural and vibrational analysis of the 4-(2,5-di-2-thienyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl) benzoic acid (TPBA), was carried out by ab initio calculations, at the density functional theory (DFT) method. Molecular geometry, vibrational wavenumbers and gauge including atomic orbital (GIAO) (13)C NMR and (1)H NMR chemical shift values of (TPBA), in the ground state have been calculated by using ab initio density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP) method with 6-311G(d,p) as basis set for the first time. Comparison of the observed fundamental vibrational modes of (TPBA) and calculated results by DFT/B3LYP method indicates that B3LYP level of theory giving yield good results for quantum chemical studies.

The molecular structure and vibrations of 5-[(3-methylphenyl) (phenyl) amino] isophthalic acid (MePIFA) were investigated by infrared and Raman spectroscopies, UV-Vis, (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopic techniques and NBO analysis. FT-IR, FT-Raman and dispersive Raman spectra were recorded in the solid phase. (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra and UV-Vis spectrum were recorded in DMSO solution.

Singlet oxygen quantum yields (ΦΔ) of different perylene diimides (PDIs) containing phenyl (PDI-Ph), pyrene (PDI-Pyr), and indole (PDI-In) units in bay positions of the ring were determined using 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran (DPBF) method in toluene/methanol (99:1) system. Pyrene-substituted PDI were the most efficient singlet oxygen generator among the investigated photosensitizers with a quantum yield of Φ Δ = 0.93 in toluene/methanol.

Natural sand has demonstrated a strong affinity for organic dyes but significantly lost its adsorption capacity when it was washed with water. Therefore, characterization of both natural and water washed sand was performed by XRD, BET, SEM and FTIR techniques.

The resulting complex was characterized by IR, NMR, and elemental analysis. The complex was labeled with I-131.
